Hi,

I've booked my first ever Just You holiday to Thailand and wondered who else was on the trip or if anyone has any handy tips on things to do, currency to take, places to avoid etc?? L

Hi Lisa. I'm not going on this particular departure date but did it first a couple of years ago. It was so fantastic I've already been back to Thailand once already and have another trip booked for early next year! The JY tour was so well organised, fabulous hotels and food, such amazing sights. I always felt very safe in all the places we visited. Here would be my top Thailand tips for you or other JY travellers to Thailand!:

I took a small amount of Thai currency from UK for the first evening but then changed UK sterling cash, easily changed in bureaux de change at better rates than in UK (they have bureau everywhere, including the main tourist sights such as The Royal Palace). I also took debit and credit cards which can be used safely in ATMs, which are everywhere in the cities, to draw out Thai bhat. Bear in mind most ATMs in Thailand charge a flat rate withdrawal fee (about £3 per withdrawal when I last went in Nov 2010) on top of any of your Uk charges.

In terms of optional excursions, I'd say 'do them all'! They're worth it if you have already travelled so far! I'd particularly recommend the River Kwai day trip. It is very moving and emotional but definitely an experience not to miss. I also recommend the Mekong River boat trip - usually this would get you 40 minutes or so in neighbouring Laos!

In the northern cities of Chaing Rai and Chaing Mai, both the hotels JY use are quite close (for me, easy walking distance) to the night bazaars and I'd say these are a must see!. Handicrafts like silk scarves, hill tribe stuff are best bought up in the north, where they are made, and cheaper than bangkok. In fact shopping for handicrafts is fantastic in the north.

Anyway, hope that helps - if you need any more info , let me know! Have a wonderful trip!

Best wishes, Nicola
