A few more tips- take US dollars-in 1's- the kids at Jerash sell postcards etc for 1JD, 1$ or 1 euro. At the time the US dollar was so much cheaper- euro and JD was a 1£.
Petra-you walk miles, the cost of a horse back to the main gates is included in the price-use it. They will try to charge you extra!!
In September we were at 42 degrees at the Dead Sea-you do not need much in the way of clothing. I did some pants and a few trousers and shirts went to the laundry at Cairo. Very cheap and a wonderful service. Still have labels ironed onto seams with my room number!
Food was plentiful and delicious. Ate for England but 2 bouts of diarrhoea and I lost 3 pounds in weight.
Take a shawl - I mostly wore shirts with short sleeves over T shirts-covers your head and shoulders in extreme heat. Paracetamol, Loperamide and a small first aid pack- used mine in Wadi Rum when one of the ladies fell against the rock face.
Pens for the children instead of money as they can trade it for something else-English writing of any sort on the pens are worth their weight in gold.
Must go to bed as it is late and my brain is asleep with such wonderful memories.
Enjoy your trip. Jan.
