I did this holiday a couple of years ago.

You need to cash money  in Istanbul. I did not do this and ended up having to buy currency off other travellers with sterling I had.

The guide said he had told us to get cash in Istanbul but I did not hear this.

I am also going to Turkey this month.  I have ordered £100 worth of lira to make sure I am not stuck for cash for small purchases.
