Hi there,

I shall be going on my first Just You trip on the 23rd August to Pompeii and have booked most of the excursions. I'm really looking forward to it and wondered if anyone else is going? I'm flying from Heathrow.

Hi Woody

I shouldnt worry if you dont get a reply, I flew from Manchester and asked the same question. Put your Just You tag on your carry on bag so that you can be recognised and vice versa. Only 3 of us flew from Manchester and one lady saw my just you label, the other didnt see us until we got to Italy waiting for our luggage.

I did the Pompei, bay of Naples tour in July. I didnt do the cooking or the 3 tenors. There were 21 of us with ages ranging from 38 to 87 and we all got on so well, lots of laughs every day!. Our tour director Marsha is full of fun and has incredible organizing skills and made this tour all the better for being there, along with her crew of very knowledgable guides who made all the visits come to life. If you are staying at the hotel Palma it is very clean and the staff are very friendly. Foods a bit hit and miss, fill up on the buffet starter at dinner. There are lots of places to eat around the hotel in the evening and your Director will always point you to the best ones.

There is a little supermarket at the back of the pharmacy on the other side of the road, get your water and snacks from there, The lady will also make you the most delicious massive sandwich!, she will pick different breads up for you to choose from, then you just point to the fresh meats, cheeses and salads you want in in!

Its a walk to the site in Pompeii from the hotel, the guide Laura was exellent. Herculaneum is much better preserved and is an amazing site again brought to life by our exellent guide, not to be missed!.

For me personaly the Naples museum visit, which was exellent, was far too long and I would have prefered to have spent half of this time having a walk around Naples. Thats just my opinion.

Im 70 and did the mount Vesuvius climb and I was fine, You get to see an amazing view of the Bay of Naples. I suggest wearing trainers, we noticed some people wearing flip flops. I used one of the walking poles for hire I think it was 1 euro, more for the trek down as its a bit slippy. Take plenty of water.

Capri is millioner island! , the boat ride around Capri was stunningly beautiful and a trip not to be missed.

Sorrento was lovely, this is were we had lemonchello tasting- very nice. We also had lots of time to wander around the narrow streets, lots of shopping to be done here.

I loved this tour, the views along the Amalfi coast are stunning and there are lots of stops along the way for photos

We had the same coach driver Andreas for the full trip, he was very skilled at getting around the very narrow roads!

I will say that if you are doing all of the extras it is full on with lots of walking, however we were there in the heat wave.

Enjoy your trip I wish I could do it all over again!

Thanks for posting Mo, there are loads of really helpful tips here especially about the walking and the different excursions and the info about the supermarket is good to know. I'm going in a couple of weeks and will be staying at the Palma hotel, I've read a few reviews saying that the food can be a bit bland so it's also good to know there are plenty of options around the area. Was it expensive to eat out? I'm just wondering how much Euros I need since most of the food and all of the excursions are paid for.

Thanks

Hi Kate

I took about 300 Euros but I bought clothes and a large pot pig (dont ask) I think an evening meal was around 20 Euros including a drink, we usually just split the bill between whoever was sat at out table as we spent about the same per head. I forgot to mention that on the way back from the Pompeii ruins there is a wonderful ice cream shop, I think some of our group went back there a few times!. There is also a small one just a little further up from the hotel on the other side of the road which is very nice too.

If the weather is still warm I recommend getting  together on the terrace on an evening with drinks.

We had such a good time, I loved this tour.

Have a fantastic time
