Hi there

I am looking for advice on what to wear (footwear in particular) and what to take in the way of currency.  Can anyone help?

Hi it's nearly 10 years since I went to Jordan, so my memory is a bit sketchy!  Certainly I would suggest that you wear comfortable casual shoes/trainers.  You will be in a lot of sandy, dusty environments so sandals will get gritty.  Casual clothes are definitely the way to go, cotton or linen are usually best.  Wear clothes that cover your shoulders and knees on the days you'll be visiting mosques or other religious/cultural areas.  As for money, I suggest either US dollars or euros, they are the best currencies to exchange when abroad these days.  I loved this trip, I hope you have an amazing time!

Having now done the trip in March, I would say the following:

Waterproof walking shoes were very useful as it was really wet at Jerash.

We had only 3 sunny days and the temperature was mostly pleasant to cool.  I was glad of jeans and a medium weight jacket at Wadi Rum.

Binoculars are not a good idea.  One of our party had theirs confiscated at the Dead Sea hotel and, having put mine in my suitcase, had to find them at Amman airport on the way out so they could see they were not 'red line'.

This is a very full-on trip.  It is 6 full days only as days one and eight are just travelling.  We got to bed around 2.00 a.m. on the Tuesday we arrived and were up early the next day.

There is a lot of walking involved.

It was a fantastic trip, but totally exhausting.

I hope someone finds this helpful.
