I looked at St. Lucia, The Gambia, Peru, Ecuador, Namibia, but then, after a read through of Bob’s review in 2020, decided the place to go was Chile … Cheers Bob !

After the awesome wildlife centred Uganda trip in June I thought an exciting and scenic option was needed. Where better than Chile looking at the reviews and comments ?

With the March option recently disappearing I’ve just taken the plunge and booked the late February trip with Easter Island add on. A real treat to look forward to and what a remedy to beat the drag of the dreaded Jan/Feb period !

I look forward to meeting fellow travellers in 7 months time  :shy:

I did this tour 5 years ago and throughly enjoyed it. Chile is a spectacular country from the Atacama desert in the north to Patagonia and Torres Del Paine in the south. And Easter Island is just one of those places that you can’t quite believe you’re there!

It’s been on ‘the list’ for a while and this coming February has proved to be an ideal opportunity for ‘the plunge’.

Let’s hope World events don’t conspire to ruin things.

Now, as you asked Bob … what do/did you make of Latam Airlines ? I’ve asked for info from JY re possible upgrades, but haven’t heard back yet (it’s only been a week).

Also, how long are you at the very high altitudes and does this include any nights ?

LATAM were fine, although we had one flight cancelled and so arrived in the Atacama a couple of hours late and missed out on a couple of viewpoints. However we were at Moon Valley in time for sunset.  As an airline I had no issues with them.

We were at around 14,000ft for a couple of hours on both days there and no one suffered badly from the attitude. Our superb tour manager, Patrick Twomey, gave us excellent advice which meant we could fully enjoy the experience. We stayed in San Pedro, which is at 8,000ft and were able to enjoy the food and drink at the hotel without difficulty (although Patrick advised us to go light on both!).

If I won the lottery, this tour would be top of the list for a return visit.

This was my last trip just before the lockdown. I went in February and had a great time. I do not think you will have any problems with the altitude. In Atacama they do carry oxygen tanks in case anyone needs it but no one in our group needed any at any time. You are in for a wonderful time. I have flown with Latam plenty of times and they are a good airline. I had no problems with them at all. I rather fly them than BA!
