I am thinking about booking the Croatia's Istrian Coast for next year, and can fly from my local airport.  However, this involves changing flights at Amsterdam’s Schipol airport.

So before I book has anyone ever changed flights here, and how difficult is it?  There are about 3 hours between flights outbound and 4 hours coming home.

Any information will be very welcome.

Thanks

Sylvia

Sylvia,

I have been through Amsterdam before and you won't have any problems.  Although it is a large airport it only has 1 terminal and everything is very well signposted.

Hi Sylvia,

I frequently travel through Schipol as I can fly direct from Glasgow and avoid Heathrow! You have allowed plenty of time to transfer. As mentioned in a previous post there is only one terminal and everything is clearly signposted. Great shops too!

Cheers,

Hils

Hi Sylvia

Yes I agree with Dawn. It is definitely an easy airport to negotiate due to the excellent signage

Thank you Dawn.  That’s good to know.  Have not finally  decided because the flights via Amsterdam leave and arrive at silly-o’clock, and the airport is about an hour’s drive from home.  Decisions, decisions, decisions...............

Thank you everyone.  Still not decided, but have plenty of time.  Don't fancy checking in at 4.20 in the morning, and landing at 22.10 on the way back. The time between flights at Schipol are the airlines timings, and there is nothing i can do about them.

Heathrow will be more expensive but less tiring.  Will give it moree thought, but at the moment I am reluctantly coming down on the sided of Heathrow.

Hi Sylvia. Just noticed your post. Hope you are well. I did this trip with a couple of friends in June. We went from Heathrow which necessitated an overnight at the Premier Inn as check in was very early in the morning.

Lovran, where hotel is situated, is about two hours away from Zagreb so you would have to include this into your travel time if you went via Schipol.

Hotel is quite large and is popular with families in local holiday times. Rooms were fairly large and comfortable. We paid extra for sea view rooms and were glad we did. Front rooms faced onto a busy main road.

I enjoyed the holiday but have to say that I preferred my previous one to the Dalmatian Coast.

Hope this helps

Hi Lesley,

Yes I am fine thank you and have settled into life “down South” in North Yorkshire. Hope you are OK.  I have decided against the Schipol route because the flights JY use leave and arrive back at ridiculously early and late times.  So I am having a complete rethink of options.  May go to Opatija instead, at much more civilised times.

Sylvia.
