As there is free time in Funchal during the trip, it gives an opportunity to visit Reid’s hotel, I think the afternoon teas need to be prebooked.  It has wonderful views and is on some  of the traditional “bucket” lists.  The guide will most likely have knowledge of best and most economic way to so it.  The history is in Wikipedia.

I've been to Reid before (nothing to do with JY).

It's excellent, but you do have to pre book, and they have a VERY strict dress code (jackets and ties for men and so on), and they do enforce it and will turn you away.

If you go for afternoon tea, ask for a table with a view, either on the terrace or just inside the room (some of the tables are at the back of the room).

Hi Rose

Nice to know that you will be able to make use of the 'bling' you bought on the Rocky Mountaineer. I am off to Burma soon and then to Ecuador and Galapagos in March next year. I definitely is going to do Chile/Easter Island tour in 2020 - a long wait but am sure it will be worth it. After that not sure as have to go through my long list and prioritise what next. It is getting harder and harder to decide where to go next! Enjoy Madeira - it is a lovely Island. Went there years ago with my brother and sister.

Regards

Jaya
