Hi everyone

I'm on the February trip to Burma and was speaking to someone who was out there earlier this year (but the southern part only).  Does anyone know.....

Whether it's possible to use ATMs during the trip or whether we should exchange some/all money at the airport from US dollars to local currency?

From people's experience, does the £ go far?  Is food, crafts, bits and pieces expensive?  It's hard to gauge how much I'll need!!

My friend said there was only WI-FI in Yangon, but she was south.  Is WI-FI limited throughout the country?

Luggage - for those who've been - I wondered whether it gets checked through or whether it has to be collected and re-checked in at Kuala Lumpur?

And lastly, how far in advance should we send our passports to JY for the visa?  I've got a trip in December and wondered if after that was enough time!!

I don't know if all these things can be answered, but I thought I'd be brave and just ask all the things that are on my mind!

I'm so looking forward to this trip - it's my first with JY and I'm hoping it'll be the first of many.

Hi Judy,

http://evisa.moip.gov.mm/  no need to send your passport anywhere. Confirmation received the following day, you just need to fill in the online form, upload a recent jpg of yourself (available from photographers, may be able to do it yourself but that's beyond me...) and pay the $50 fee, very straight forward. You print the letter, take it with you and they stamp it on entry.

The E-Visa is only valid for 3 months from issue, so anytime in December would be OK

Hi Judy

I did the first trip last February and if you look at the review section you will find my review and many comments from my fellow travellers and subsequent trips.  But to answer you questions.

ATM's - these were being installed when we were there and Naing our guide also changed money for us at the bank during the trip.  Try to get small denomination notes as 10,000 Kyat goes a long way to answer your second question.

Wi-Fi - I don't end to use this on trips but I think it was available in all our hotels.

Luggage is checked through on all flights.

Visa - I sent mine off in January and this was fine but I understand from a friend who is going next months that there is now the e-version available as Debbie has said.

Have a great trip - so far it is my best holiday ever.

Moderator,

Does that  mean I won't  need to post my passport with my Burma  visa applicationapplication?

Good Morning,

We would advise you to send your passport with your Burma visa application.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

Mildred.

Hi Sarah, I sorted out my own Visa on-line, using the link in my original post. If you are using JY's visa service, you will need to send your passport to them.

Didn't mean to confuse you, sorry.

Hi Sarah,

As I see it, we can either get an eVisa ourselves online at a cost of $50 or send our passports to JY and get a printed visa inserted into them.  I plan to get the eVisa as it seems a lot less hassle.

All the best,

Bob

Thanks, that's all very helpful indeed. I think I put myself down for the MY visa but there's still time and I'll look at the e-visa so that I'm not posting my passport with the Xmas rush.
