Hi

I am considering this holiday for next year and see that the Feb departures are guaranteed but the January ones aren't.  I know it is early days but has there been much interest in this trip?

There are several internal flights in the itinerary and I am a bit concerned that a lot of time is spent travelling on this holiday rather than being 'on the ground' experiencing the country.  How long are the flights and what will the baggage allowance be?

Many thanks

Hi Jonah,

It is early days for this tour, but the team are happy with the interest that we have had so far.

Chatting to the product team, the internal flights are about an hour, so the group tends to travel in the morning and be somewhere new for lunch. The only other way to see the country would be to drive some of these long distances which may be on bumpy and uncomfortable roads.

In terms of luggage allowance - this is 20Kg throughout.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Hi Jonah

I have booked the February departure date for this tour.

When I rang Customer Services about it I said that I didn't want to book until it was guaranteed. I was told if I booked there and then they would guarantee it because there was already one booking on it. So at least you know that there are two of us!

Ideally I would have booked October or November as Ethiopia has been on my bucket list for years but a friend wanted to go to Norway in November. She was thinking about us going independently but we have booked the TS Norway and Northern Lights for November, hence Ethiopia would have been too much to do this year.

Perhaps someone will be kind enough to do a review after the first outings. I think Roger has booked the Nov date and he usually does a good review.

Kind Regards

Di

Thanks Julia

The news re the fights being short (and cutting out long driving days) has reassured me so I will give this trip some more consideration when I return from Sri Lanka in a couple of weeks.

Hi Chris,

I'm seriously looking at this trip next year but being a skinflint am awaiting the £100 from my next trip in April before booking. Perhaps we'll meet up again.

Regards,

Roger

Hi Jonah and Roger

Very sorry, i obviously got that wrong in my post. I thought I had read that Roger had already booked Ethiopia for this year.

I have lost out because I have booked before I return from my Tiger Trail but no doubt I will find use for my voucher on another tour.

Roger, I did meet you in Georgia last year. I was travelling with my friend Margaret--we were the two elderly walkers invariably bringing up the rear of the group. I remember you showing me the list of JY tours that you had done on your phone!

Hi Roger

Good to hear from you.  I am a skinflint too and will wait for my voucher on my return from Sri Lanka in a couple of weeks before I finally decide.

Hi guys,

I knew some of the forum regulars were interested in this tour so I was waiting to see who took the plunge.  Paula I can let you know I am booked on this tour, for November 2020!

I must admit I thought long and hard on who to do this trip with as I was intending doing Ethiopia in 2020 even before JY launched their tour. In the end I obviously went with JY. I know another company has a fourth internal flight and others I was looking at have only two. The latter do warn about some long travel days on not too good roads and they also do a particularly hair raising walk involving mules! I've had some long, rough travel days in my time so thought internal flights on this occasion would be better even though I too want to be on the ground as much as possible. The way I see it is, the Burma trip had three internal flights and it worked out well.

I'll be happy to give feedback after the tour. Pity I won't catch up with some of you, maybe another time.

We had 5 internal flights for the Chile Tour and if you count flights to and from Easter Island than it would be 7! The total flights, including all the internals, to and from LHR to Santiago were 11.
