Hello,

Reading the latest Inspirations and all about Visas, it came to my attention that you are telling us that we need a visa for New Zealand. I was under the impression that as I am from Great Britain and on holiday, I could have a Visa Waiver or is this for a group Visa?

Hi Jan,

I can clear this one up, on selected departures we fly via the USA (at the moment this applies to the 1 Feb 2018 departure), so while you don't require a visa for New Zealand, an ESTA is required for the pitstop in the states.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Thank you Julia, I am on the October trip via Singapore so that is £29 extra for my holiday 🙂

It's really easy to apply for a US ESTA on line. You pay by credit card, and the cost is around $14.

Hi Janib

I don't think you need as ESTA if you are flying via Singapore.

Thank you Jaya and Sarah,

I always get my Esta online as it lasts for 2 years. It was the Inspirations magazine that confused me as it tells us that we have to pay £29 for a Visa when I know that I do not need one for New Zealand. A visa for Australia yes, not going there !

No, that's right, the ESTA is presumably required when flying to NZ with New Zealand Airlines, which go via LA, I believe.

I am told that NZA have a very reasonable Premium Economy which is probably worthwhile for such a long journey, even with a break in LA.

You do need an ESTA even if you are only travelling through the USA (I needed one when I flew back from New Zealand last year vis LA), from memory they do last for 2 years so if you plan to go to or via the USA within 2 years I believe you can use the same ESTA.

I had to get an ESTA when flying to Costa Rica via Houston in March, but unfortunately if I ever plan to visit USA or fly via USA, I will have to get another one as my passport is due for renewal next year. The ESTA lasts for 2 years, but if you have to renew your passport within this 2 years, then it lapses. I personally do not see any reason why one should have to have an ESTA whilst in transit - a good revenue system for the USA!

Jaya
