Hi Monty,

Another quick question for you - as things stand at the moment are JY planning on continuing with the Canada and Rocky Mountaineer tour for 2017 or could it undergo a revamp?

All the best,

Bob

Hi Bob,

http://forum.justyou.co.uk/thread-82616.html .

It looks as though you are both eager to see the 2017 dates...is this another holiday on your 'to visit list' Bob?

Kindest regards,

Monty

Hi Monty, it most certainly is! At present I'm thinking about doing Burma early in the year and Canada in the autumn but that could change - I'll wait and see what the April brochure brings!

Best wishes,

Bob

Hi Cindy,

Apologises...I should learn to test them! I can't seem to get a working link, but if you search for 'Canada and the Rocky Mountaineer 2017' in the search field you should come across sookie222's thread.

Kindest regards,

Monty

So, Mr Gray - when were you planning to squeeze Alaska in between Burma and the Rockies?? (So many places...so little time...!) Reminder - try to upgrade to Gold Leaf on the Mountaineer if you can - it's pricey but absolutely worth it.

Monty- I did the Rocky Mountaineer trip in 2011 (loved it - my best ever JY so far) and so, could I humbly suggest to the holiday creators that they consider re-introducing the couple of nights at the end of the tour actually spent on Vancouver Island (rather than just visiting for a day trip)? That was what our itinerary had and it was super to have the extra time over there. I think we stayed at the Queen Victoria Suites. It's got a lovely colonial feel about it and with the extra time we were able to squeeze in some orca watching and even a ghost walk! It won't affect me of course but for Bob and the class of 2017 it could make a huge difference. (as I'm sure the reintroduction of the two day train trip has).

All the best

Hi Mandy, I don't think I'll be doing Alaska for a couple of years (if the tour is still around that is!). I've really wanted to do the Canada tour for a good while and the two days on the Rocky Mountaineer sound wonderful. Silverleaf is included and there doesn't seem to be a huge difference between silver and gold - in your experience do you think it is definitely worth the upgrade? It is already a very expensive tour and although I would love a couple of days on Vancouver Island as you suggest, I'd be afraid that the tour may increase in price beyond what I can afford! I think when JY offered this tour before it was Redleaf on the RM train, so I'm thinking Silverleaf would be a good compromise and am glad JY have included it - what do you think?

Cheers,

Bob

Hi Bob

I've just replied to Sue's very similar question about Red v Silver v Gold on her separate thread. As I said, I can't give a view on Silver because it wasn't around back then but in my view, Gold was well worth it.

The extra days on Vancouver Island weren't an add on so I think the itinerary may have changed slightly earlier on. I think we did a night in Vancouver, then over to Victoria for two nights before at least one more back on the mainland (where those who where doing the Alaskan cruise add-on that was available at the time left us). We also had a couple of nights each in both Banff and Jasper.

I'm a bit jealous because I'd love to do it again (but I'd probably give the Capillano Bridge a miss this time.....been there, done that, almost lost my breakfast.....) Tip - I can recommend the sea food chowder in the bar at the Lake Louise Fairmont and, at all costs ask your TM if you can stop off at Bow Lake on your way through the Ice Field Parkway. It's not always an automatic stop but, again in my humble opinion, it's got some of the best photo opportunities of the trip. (If Brian Croft is your TM, he'll definitely take you there because it's one of his favourites too!)

Let me know if you have any other questions

All the best

Mandy

One of the many trips on my wish list. Would it be possible to offer extra nights in Vancouver as an add on?

Hi Mandy, thanks for the info and tips! I'll have to wait and see what tours are in the April brochure before I make up my mind....

Cheers,

Bob
