Julia,

Not sure whether you will be able to answer this so far ahead but on the America Heart and soul holiday we are in Chicago 3 nights (Mon, Tues & Wed).

Would you be able to tell me which night the included excurrsion to Kingston Mines Blues Club will be ?

For information to others doing this holiday I've been in the club more than once and its a bit different, the music starts at 9pm (until 3am) and there are two acts scheduled each night who alternate every hour (3 stints each).

However they dont play the same stage the audience changes rooms between acts, time it well 5 mins before end of act to get better seat in the other room.

I'll assume the JY group wouldn't be staying until 3am but you can easily flag taxis outside if anyone wanted to stay and also a subway station (Fullerton on red line) thats less than 10 minute walk that will take you back downtown (only 3 or 4 stops).

Hi Mick,

It looks like this is planned to be on day 2, however it might be worth asking closer to the date in case there have been any operational changes to the itinerary.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Oh stop it Mick, you're making me so envious. And I see you're thinking of the Chicago Blues Festival next year too. Now there's an idea for a city break Will?

Jean,

Get booked you know you want to, lol.

Think the Blues fest will be with Micks travels, maybe will get others interested though. Luckily I know Chicago well so easy one for me to organise.

Ha! Yes I do Mick but, as I said before, I think maybe I should try something different as I did a similar tour earlier this year.

Micks Travels, do they have a website? 🙂

Website, never thought of that no wonder not getting any bookings, lol.

Seriously though Jean for a long time I've considered about writing a blog about my holidays as a solo traveller just never got around to it maybe i should.

Been travelling solo for about 10 years on and off sometimes with companies like JY, other times totally solo and even sorted out for others to come with me.

Hi Mick, why don't you write it as a book and publish it on Kindle? It seems to be a straightforward way of getting something published yourself these days and I'm sure many on here would buy it!

Cheers,

Bob

Hi Bob,

Good point but a bit scary as I'm not a great writer never was a strengh. Will start with a blog it can always be converted (i have blogged before but not holiday specific).

In the process of putting something together and will write about previous experiences as had a lot of funny and strange incidents, it will also be a good guide to anyone thinking about solo travel.

Of course JY will get a few mentions as i've done a good few trips with them.

May be a bit random at first, I'm trying to remeber stuff from years back but future hols will definately take notes as I go.

Bob,

Well what Mick says he'll do he will do and the blog is taking shape would be interested to here your (and others) comments on layout aswell as posts.

Got a bit on there so far including two parts of a three part report on my recent Nat Parks holiday with JY.

Will need a bit of work but really getting into it now, been looking at photos from many trips and a few memories are flooding back.

So my blog on Solo travel is up and running (a bit of publicity for JY in there).

Hey Mick just read your blog, it's great and I even put a comment up! Looking forward to further updates. Make sure you put the links up here so we can keep up to date (maybe start a new thread for this?). I hope you'll put up blogs on other JY hols that went a bit smoother than the NP one!!

Cheers,

Bob

Just been reading it Mick. Nice work

Good to sort of get to know you before I do! :)

I was really interested to read about your San Antonio trip. I have a website buddy who for a few years now has been wanting me to go over to visit her there.

Lucky I wrote up San Antonio first as I've about 20 North American Cities to do. SA is well worth a visit and I'll go again one day did consider doingthe Texas & New Orleans as my touring one this year but opted for Americas Heart & Soul in november. Of course not until I've been to Slovenia.

Hello Mick,

Read your blog, left a message on SA, forgot to leave my name.

Still trying to work out holidays for next year so that I can have enough time for Route 61. Not done Chicago, best Blues place was Beale Street in Memphis- loved it. Have done House of Blues in Orlando- who was on ? Olly Murs of all people!

Wow. That's a lot of cities. City wise I have only done Cleveland, Detroit and Chicago. We spend a lot of time when I go over in rural areas.

Jan,

Was in Memphis in 2005 and must agree Beale st was a big highlight especially with everything together.

Chicago doesn't have one street like that with everthing together but once you know where ou are going there are some great Clubs.

Keep eye on the blog will be doing Memphis & Chicago posts in the near future.

Why don't you consider the Heart & Soul trip on 3rd November, I'm definately going, think there are a few booked already, know one other person that was on my hol this year and enjoys the nightlife has booked and another is considering it. Reckon we'll get a good crowd up for a night out with it been all music cities, also know a couple of good paces in St Louis walkable from the hotel.
