Hi Julia, I'm off on Monday to the States and just saw a friend's status on Facebook when he metioned clearing US Customs at the airport. I'm flying from Belfast to Heathrow and apart from check-in at Belfast do I have to do anything at Heathrow, like find a US Customs desk to check my ESTA or anything? As it's a connecting flight I wouldn't be checking in again, so I'm not sure what the procedure is. I've only been to the US once before on a tour and I had problems with my ESTA then, so didn't follow the "usual" procedures so I'm not sure what I need to do this time!

Cheers,

Bob

Hi Bob,

You'll be counting down the hours soon!

Right then in my USA experiences I've checked in and taken the same route as if I were travelling anywhere else in the world but I wanted to double check with our aviation team and this is the response....

Check-in in Belfast as you would normally do, as the ESTA is tied to your passport, if there are any problems they should be flagged at this point by the BA representative. If everything is in order (so your ESTA is still valid/you've not changed your passport) you will be given two boarding passes - one for the Belfast-Heathrow leg and one for your Heathrow-Denver journey. Check that you are given both of these!! You will arrive at Heathrow T1 and will need to make you way over to T5. Once there simply make your way to the gate.

I hope you have a wonderful time and look forward to your posts when you return.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Hi Julia,

Many thanks as always for your helpful reply! I thought it should be straightforward (I have the ESTA and my shiny new passport) and I think it must be a peculiarly Irish thing that there is a US customs desk at Dublin airport, perhaps dating back to the time when many young Irish went to the States on a J1 visa and didn't come back!!

I am so looking forward to the holiday and will definitely write a review when I get back!

Take care,

Bob
