I have recently been given the 'all clear' to travel after a massive dvt behind my right knee. I really would like to make my first holiday the Route 66 trip, but I am a little concerned about the leg room on the coach- I need to regularly flex my calf to keep the blood flowing.

So... is the leg room sufficient to ensure I can enjoy my holiday?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob

We always use comfortable coaches and coach standards are generally higher in developed countries such as America so I'm sure you will be fine, especially if you get up from time to time to stretch your legs. But I can't give you a definite answer as we wouldn't know exactly which coach you would be using until much closer to departure, and even then it's possible that there might be last-minute changes.

Perhaps some other Community users could share their experience of leg room on Just You's American coaches?

Kind regards,

Olly, your editor

Rob,

Having done three USA JY Tours I can assure you that on all the tours I had ample leg room, to be honest I don't need to have to sit with someone while on coach journey parts of a USA tour I am more than happy to have two seats to myself so I can chill out with the I Pod etc, and I have always found there is ample room to spread around,or have the aisle seat to hang a leg out so to speak. Or even sit at the back so the legs can go forward, there are also comfort stops along the drive. I would say you will be fine. BUT the dicission ultimatley has to be yours.

I have never travelled on an American Coach but I have had DVT about 10 years ago. You will need to stand up and walk frequently, not just sit back and stretch your legs out. In the UK it is illegal to walk up and down coaches whilst they are moving, in case of an accident, but I don't know the law for the USA. It is not a problem in the air. Just ask the steward/stewardess especially if there is only one aisle. Do not forget to wear the pressure stockings.

The most important thing of course is to make sure that your insurance company knows about your condition because some of them will not entertain you.

I hope that you decide to do your holiday, and I am sorry if I have been so negative.

Best wishes

Peter
