I went to Mauritius in 2007 and found it a lovely place. The people are very friendly, the food is excellent and because it is a tropical island you'll see all sorts of interesting plant and animal life. Mauritius also has some excellent hotels, so if you just want to take it easy and relax with your fellow passengers, you can do just that.

I know it can seem daunting to go away on your own for the first time, but you'll find that most people felt exactly the same before they took the plunge. As soon as you meet the group and get to know people, you'll wonder why you ever felt nervous!
