I booked Flavours of Tuscany a few weeks ago.   I wish I hadn't - I now see that those who book any Italy tour before 20 December will receive a free case of wine.  I feel cheated - no benefit for booking early.

Hi Sylvia

Technically you did book before 20th December so maybe you should try your luck with Customer Services!!

Good luck

I assume that the deal between JY and the supplier has only recently been formalised. It wouldn't be a surprise if customers booking in advance of this offer are also included. It makes sense to reward loyal customers.

I agree. I booked to go to Puglia a few weeks ago and wish I hadn't.

Offering a free case of wine to those who book now seems totally unfair.

I'll certainly think carefully before I book early again.

This happened to me when I booked early with another travel company (probably using the same wine supplier!)

When I saw the wine offer, and slightly annoyed, I intended to contact the travel company but never got round to it - but then, a few weeks later, a large box full of wine bottles was delivered with no advance warning - so I remained a loyal customer!

If JY has any sense, it will do the same . . .

I will be mortified if JY do not supply you ALL with this deal, as others have said YOU HAVE booked before the dead line date.

Thanks for all your comments.

SarahS - The offer was an advert at the bottom of an email I received from JY.

Yes, I agree I did book before 20 December, but that is not my point.  With a lot of retailers you know there are going to be reductions, special offers, etc., at various times, so you have the choice to buy when you want to or wait; but I have never come across this type of offer with a tour operator; early booking discounts yes, but not this type of offer.

Have never got anywhere with customer "services" in the past, but may well have a go at them now.

Hi Leslie, glad to see you had a good result, I will keep my fingers crossed and post an update if anything happens.

Hello All,

I have seen this at the top of the main page as it scrolls through, starts with I think Vienna Christmas and Oberammagau plus a picture with free wine if you book Italy or USA holidays.

I hope you all get your wine as you have booked before 20th December

Where do you expect JY to draw the line?  I booked in May for New Year in Italy and would not expect to be included.  It’s just a marketing gesture.  Some you win some you lose.  Happy Christmas everybody.

Good Afternoon SarahS,

We send a number of different emails to our customers each week.

May I ask if you are receiving any of our emails? If not, then I can opt you in to our system.

Kind Regards,

Amy

I too would be disappointed for missing out on such an offer, despite not drinking wine, as I always book early - it goes to my head! I think there should be discounts for booking early - Just You get your deposit money early so why not?!

Hi Amy

Having been a JY customer for quite a few years now I too would like to receive these e-mails. Can you get me on the system too please.

Thanks

I have now read the terms and conditions regarding the free wine.  You have to have booked between 23 Nov and 20 Dec.  Like others I book early.

My Xmas Italian trip was booked on 28 August.  My feeling is that JY has had some bad comments, complaints feedback etc. recently and bookings are probably well down at this calendar point from previous years.  Personally, I have normally booked 3 or 4 for next year by now but there's only 1 booked and that's with TS.  There's now tremendous competition out there for us singletons and judging by the free wine offer desperate measures are being taken by JY to achieve more bookings.

Hi Gill

The T&C's weren't in the email, and I could not be bothered to look elsewhere for them.  I agree about desperate measures.  There does appear to be an increase in complaints recently.  This is a shame because when I first travelled with JY in 2013 I was very impressed and pleased with everything.   It sees to me, and I could be wrong, that every time there is change of ownership standards go down.

Over the last three years, due to JY's standards dropping, I have had seven holidays with another company and none with JY.  Admittedly they are more expensive but the hotels,  4* and  5*, food, and usually wine, beer or soft drink with dinner, are excellent.  Yes, I know we are paying for it in the holiday cost, but it makes budgeting easier when you know there are not a myriad of optional extras. They don't skimp on what we have paid for either.   Perhaps I am just getting fussier in my old age!

For 2018 I have booked one tour with JY because it appeals to me.  I wanted to do it this yea but couldn't fit it in.  I was going to book San Marino as well, but when I saw that the farewell dinner was an optional excursion I decided to forget it.  Optional extra for farewell dinner- a step too far for me.

Probably true, but it's not only competition for solo travellers?

I have just received a mailshot from Travelsphere  with the same offer for holidays to Italy or USA booked as above and departing before 31 July 2018 (Italian wine for IT and American wine for US):  the small print states "this offer is for new bookings only and cannot be used with any holiday purchased prior to this promotion". It very helpfully adds "the same terms will apply to single travellers"

This is presumably an initiative of JY's and TS' parent company G Touring Ltd, which adheres to standard business practice elsewhere: take the regular customers for granted while directing attractive offers to potential new customers?
