Hi Patsy,

If you do a search you will find lots of threads about this trip as there are a lot of forum regulars on it!  I suggest you change your user name as you may get a lot of extra spam if you use your email as your user name....

This should be a fantastic tour...looking forward to meeting you in less than two months.

Best wishes,

Bob

Hi Patsy,

I'm booked on this tour and also the Easter Island extension. I'm travelling to Heathrow on the National Express coach from Birmingham on the day, and am scheduled to arrive at 15:40hrs. I'll look forward to meeting you then. My JY labels will be attached to both my case and rucksack, so just say hi if you spot me in the checking-in queue or wandering about. Failing that, I'll see you in the airport lounge.

Cheers

Mike

Most people on this forum will advise you not to use your email address as your "name", because you are operning up to a lot of possible difficulties....not that I am, in any way, a tec knowledgeable person, but be careful. Not going on the trip, bjut should be fantastic.

Hello Patsy,

I am also looking forward to this tour. It certainly seems full on, but very varied and interesting.

See you at Heathrow.

Hi - Ray, Bob, Dave and Mike,

I'm wondering about currency.....and read somewhere you need both Chilean pesos and dollars.

Are you bringing both and roughly what proportion. Got no idea really, what would be needed for expenses not covered by the trip. Is that mainly some food and drink or entry to places as well??

Grateful for any guidance here!

Hi Patsy,

Several countries an South and Central America readily accept dollars, but Chile may not be one of them according to my (limited) research. If you have dollars, by all means take them, as will I, but perhaps not buy any. Rather maybe take some Pesos to last a couple of days, and use a Debit card in an ATM. I'm sure there will be time on arrival at Santiago airport, or downtown later. Be sure to inform your bank of the dates in country. About half the lunches are included, so we will need to fund the others, all dinners and drinks etc. Hotel bills can most probably be paid with a card. Cost of living is less than UK, so if you use our prices for a guide, you'll be on the right side. There are no optionals on this trip, so I'm assuming entry costs etc. are all included.

Hope this helps a little.

Hi Patsy,

Patrick our TM said not to worry about changing money - so sterling, euro etc. will be fine and we can exchange them for pesos when we are there.  The only thing I'd suggest is bringing some dollars for Easter Island, if you are doing the extension, as they would be easier to change there if you happen to run short on pesos.

Not long to go now - the October tour is leaving today and I know Julie will write a review when she gets back!

All the best,

Bob

Hello Everyone,

Feeling you have all set off now but I've personally just returned from visiting Uruguay & Chile (not a JY hol) and have to say i'm certain you will have a great time Santiago is a fantastic City with very friendly people. Good food and nice wine helps.

If you get chance visit the "Devils Cellar", Casillero de Diablo winery, lovely place and great tour as wineries go.

If you go up the hill in Santiago use the cable car rather than the funicular or prepare to spend lots of time in a queue.

Enjoy
