I’ve just booked this holiday for the week beginning 2 September – a country I have long wanted to see.  And somewhere a bit nearer home after four consecutive long-haul trips, 2 with JY (China [13] and India [14]) and to Peru last year with their sister company, Travelsphere.

I’ve also pre-booked both options as Krka seems essential and the ½-day to Makarska seems quite reasonable.

Hope to see some other posts here from others going on the same date or anyone who’s been, with their experiences/tips.

Hi Mike

I was on the 3 June trip and can highly recommend it.  The scenery is out of this world.  Krka is well worth a visit and you can take or leave the Makarska trip as some of the group took a local bus which cost them a pount but they didn't get the tour at the start of the visit.  If nothing else its a lovely place to have lunch and do some shopping.

The highlight for me was the trip to Drubrovnik.  Don't be put off by the 8am start and the three hour drive as the scenery is spectacular and the time just flies by.  I went on the cable car to the top and had lunch before climbing some of the wall.  It's a beautiful city but might be busy if there's a cruise ship in.

Both hotels are lovely, the food is great, drinks are reasonably cheap and all in all you are in for a treat.  Enjoy!

Thank you so much for your response, just the sort I was seeking, from someone who’s already been. When one’s done the China and India trips, a one-off 8am start is a very minor inconvenience, believe me! I recall five consecutive alarms in India at 06:40, 05:20, 05:30, 05:25 and 05:30 followed two days later by a call I noted as “the worst yet!” at 04:45! In both countries, coach-journeys to get anywhere on the Itinerary often took 2-3 hours or even more. But we had to be at the Taj Mahal just a couple of miles away by 06:30 to join the queue which wasn’t admitted until ¾-hour later! But seeing the sun rising behind it made anything so worth any effort.

China was exacerbated further by the massive traffic-jams coming in to or leaving Beijing, despite the 6-8 lanes each way..

I see you don’t rate the Makarska trip too highly but I’m sure the tour that begins it will justify the modest cost. Anyway, I’ve booked it in advance now!

All in all, your recommendations and comments are highly encouraging and thank you.

I look forward to meeting up with you, Anna, and thank you too for your response.

You also get a drink at the end of the tour in Makarska Town which will make your eyes water but worth the price of the trip alone!

Hello everyone. I'm new to forums and not too sure if this is the right place to ask my question but here goes. I have just returned from the Discover Apulia holiday and as I am recovering from a prolapsed disc I found some of the trips hard going due to rough walking conditions. I am booked onto the Croatia and Makarska Riveria trip for 2nd September and wonder if anyone can tell me of any difficulties that may be encountered for someone with my problem. I'm hoping the treatment I'm receiving will have benefits but would like to be prepared. Thank you.

I went on this trip in June which was very enjoyable and we saw some lovely places and beautiful scenery. You need not worry about walking as all the walking is on proper paths, however I did not go to the national park which I would think could cause you problems so you may want to pass on that one. However where the hotel is is in a very quiet location with gentle paths nearby and some of us enjoyed a nice quiet relaxing day there taking gentle strolls and sitting on a bench/cafe enjoying the scenery.

Sorry for taking so long to reply but I think you'll be fine APART from the trip to the national park as it's a very long walk with some slightly rough terrain.  A few people on my trip went and although they didn't do the full tour they managed to walk around and at least saw some of the beautiful scenery and mini waterfalls.  There's a cafe at the entrance where you can sit and enjoy the views. So it's NOT an absolute no-no.  Have a wonderful time as it's a gorgeous place.
