After just becoming a widower, 3 days before Xmas last year, a new chapter begins.......& joining this community & taking my first holiday as a single person after 28yrs is that beginning.

My late wife & I always wanted to travel the Rocky Mountaineer & so in honour of her I shall be doing just that next year. Obviously I'm a little apprehensive as I'm only 57yrs old & you always tend to think singles holidays are for the older generation, but after reading so many testimonials about Just You then I just had to go for it :shy: .

So, if anyone has any tips or pearls of wisdom then they will be gratefully received. :idea: 🙂

As to tips and pearls of wisdom (??).  Read the reviews of your chosen holiday unless you like to be surprised, make contact through the forum with other travellers on your holiday and keep an eye out for any questions asked by them.

Otherwise, relax and enjoy your holiday.  You will have as much or as little company as you want and although it won't be the same as before hopefully it will be enjoyable in a different way.  Don't worry about the age range, all the JY'ers I have met are young at heart

Don't worry about the age thing at 57 you will be fine, I am that age and have been travelling with JY since 2006 also the age I think in coming down a little bit now, there are many people on this community who are younger than you.

I have been lucky enough to travel on 11 tours from Austria-Kenya-USA and even as far as New Zealand and many other places as well. I have seen some great sights and met some lovely people along the way.

I have not been on the tour you have picked, but it gets great feed back so I am sure you will have a great time.

Any other questions just ask, and I am sure someone will have an answer.

The Rocky Mountaineer trip is a great choice - I did it in 2011 and after many adventures with JY (including China, Italy, the US, Iceland and Ireland), it remains my favourite.

If you type Rocky Mountaineer in the search function at the top of the page, you will find loads of reviews and tips from JYers like me who have done the tour to give you a few pointers and hopefully answer any questions or concerns you have. Trust me, you will be very well looked after by your TM and as for the rest of the group, don't think of them as singles or a specific age group, we are all just fellow travellers - friends you haven't met yet.

very much welcome to you, i too are 57 but age is just a number and people of all ages travel with JY alone for various reasons, i too would love to do the Rocky Mountaineer at some point along with many other places, have done Australia, Peru and Vietnam in recent times and very much loved them all with Borneo to come in May, i lost my Dad back in 1990 and went to Egypt in 91 in memory of him as that was where he always wanted to go and i was going to take him the year he was ill but Doctors advised against it

any questions on the tours i have done don't hesitate to ask

Im sure you'll be glad you took the plunge. On my first JY trip I met a lady who had just been widowed. We had a memorable week in Austria and went on to do a tour which included a flight over the Grand. Canyon in her late husband's honour. Very emotional  but she enjoyed every minute. Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for that & I hope you enjoy Italia.....I actually live in Puglia so La Dolcevita.....well, it was until my wife passed but life goes on & although she's no longer with me the memories will last forever !

Well my first JY holiday is booked, deposit paid & excitement is setting in. I will be going on the Rocky Mountaineer in May but would be grateful if anyone can advise me on the type of weather/temperature for that time of year, just so I know what to pack.....otherwise I'll be packing for all seasons lol.

I'm still thinking about booking for June next year but won't be able to finalise my dates until later this year.  To be honest, I think packing for all seasons is the right way to go!  If you pack lots of light layers - t shirts, long sleeved shirts, a light jumper and a fleece you should be able to get it right for most situations!  In May I would think the temperature would range from cool in the mountains, especially in the evenings to quite warm in Vancouver, so you would need a variety of clothes.
