Hi everyone, I am Elaine and through various circumstances find myself travelling alone these days.

I have never travelled on my own before until this New Year and decided to try a cruise. The cruise was lovely and just what I wanted but it was a bit isolated on your own especially at dinner. I just wanted to know if anyone has been on the China or Vietnam festive trip and I assume the people who go on these holidays are like for like. I.e 50+ who are quite happy to mingle but, at the same time happy to do their own thing if they feel like it?

Just looking for some info.

Thanks not very good at this sort of thing.

Elaine.

Hi Elaine

Welcome to the Forum. I, too, found myself travelling alone 4 years ago and since then have done many trips mostly with JY, some with other companies. With JY the age range does vary depending on the trip but you can always ask before you book what the make up is. As regards mixing, you can do as much as you want or as little.

Good luck with finding a trip.

Hi Elaine

I have been travelling alone for many years, with JY and other companies. I am like you in that I don't mind spending time on my own but it's very nice to have company over dinner. I am sure you will enjoy any JY holiday you pick, who's to know what your travelling companies will be like but rest assured there will be some you will get along with like a house on fire, the law of averages justifies this. If you want to a mixture of mingling and doing your own thing it's probably best to chose an escape holiday (beach holiday) to start with, the tours are great fun but it would be a shame to miss out on all the excursions which JY chooses very carefully.

Hi Elaine

I did the China tour in 2010-my first with JY. This is a very full on tour but you do see a lot. I travelled with a fairly large group who ranged in age from early 30s to early 80s. Everyone mixed well and, as all meals are included, group ate together. Have not done the Vietnam but I am sure someone who has will respond to your post.

Hope this helps

Hi Elaine

Just You is fantastic for solo travellers. Everything is taken care of and you travel with like minded people. All you have to do is sit back, relax and have lots of fun along the way. You can do your own thing if you wish or join in all the included and optional excursions. There is no pressure. I have not yet had a chance to do either the China or Vietnam trips, but have heard lots of good things about them and they are both on my list. Stop thinking and just go ahead and book a trip. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed and will want to book another on your return.

Hi Jaya, thanks so much for the reply.

Yes I think I'm going to go for it. Just need to check I can get the right dates off.

I'm very sociable and late 40's so glad to hear there are like minded people.

It's just nice to have the choice to do your own thing but, be part of a group when you want to.

Now getting excited to check. My dates and get this booked.

Have a lovely weekend.

The age thing was probably misleading on my post. I'm in my late 40's so happy to chat to someone in their 20-80.

Sounds like it's just what I'm looking for so great to hear you took the plunge and done many trips in the last 4 years.

Have a lovely weekend...

Sounds like JY is just what im looking for. Always hard to try the unknown but all the post are very re assuring.

I think I'll do a week first as you say above a beach break might ease me into testing the waters.

Thanks again. Have a lovely weekend.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. They were all very helpful.

Just checking dates I can take from the office and I'll be booking a holiday.

Really reassuring I'm not the only one who has never done this before and great replies who were in the same boat, but now have enjoyed multiple trips..

Thanks again. Elaine.

Hi Elaine,

I wish I had found Just You years ago! I am shortly to go on the Costa Rica trip in March but went on my first to Finland last year. Its great having people to join for dinner , or not if you choose to stay alone(nobody did) There are usually more women than men and there was a great atmosphere on my finland trip so hoping for another great holiday.I like the fact that you have your own room to retire to if you need some space but there are always people to talk to and interact with.A friend I kept in touch with from Finland has just returned from the Vietnam trip and it sounded fantastic so dont hesitate, you will really enjoy yourself. There is usually at least one person you can connect with but dont worry about it as everybody I met really friendly and wanting to enjoy themselves as much as you. . lesley x

Hi Elaine

There is a great review of Vietnam and Cambodia over the festive period which Julie White has done. So if you haven't caught up with that yet, have a look in the Review section.

I myself starting using JY in 2010 with a NZ via Hong Kong trip and have been on numerous holidays since!

Enjoy

Sylvia
