I'm thinking of doing the Cilento Coast in June. Has anyone been around this time - if so, what is it like, and what is the hotel like?

Thank you. Olive

Hi there Olive.

I love this place so much that I have been twice. Not though since the Spa has been completed so I can't comment on that unfortunately. It looks great though.

The area is still a relatively undiscovered part of Italy. The hotel is set right on the harbour front of a small town/village called St Marco. There are a few restaurants in the village and a wonderful ice cream place just a very short walk away. Also a couple of supermarkets for basics. You can get the local bus to Santa Maria or walk along a wonderful beach . That is a slightly larger place with more shops etc.

The hotel itself is nice, friendly staff, good food and all rooms have a sea view and balcony. The lounges are all open (no windows), and there is plenty of foliage about both outside and inside the hotel. Do beware of mosquitos! Wine is served with evening meal which does help with your bar bill! The hotel does have a small private beach but the beach between the two towns is a lot nicer and only about 10 minutes walk away.

I've been on all the excursions in my two visits and they are all worth doing.

I am more than happy to recommend the holiday, and happy also to answer any more questions you might have. I know it is a very popular holiday for JY and rightly so.

If you do book, please leave a review on here.

I forgot to say that I went in early May and the weather particularly the second time was very good indeed.

Hi Olive

I did this holiday in early July last year so similar timing to your plans. It was absolutely lovely. Hotel is wonderful, rooms overlook either the private beach or the pretty harbour area or in some case both. Hotel staff all very friendly and facilities great. A very attractive and relaxing hotel all round as indeed is the little town of San Marco. It is quite an unspoilt area and one attraction to us was that we appeared to be the only British tourists in the town. In fact after leaving the airport pretty much the only other Brits we saw the whole time were in Amalfi so that was a bonus!

Some good excursions available but lazy days around the hotel were also very enticing.

It was very hot indeed, even more than anticipated so hope that helps when you're packing. I'm sure you will love it.

Regards Sue

Is anyone going to the Cilento coast 19th June?

Hi there,

You mention mosquitos. Are they around at certain times of the summer?

I shall be going early June.

Do you also have any tips to keep them at bay, particularly in the hotel room.

Many thanks

Heather

Re l'approdo hotel San Marco...Are there any tea/coffee making facilities in the room? Is there a safe in the room? Is the hairdryer powerful or just adequate? In June, are there many mosquitoes or other biting insects to worry about? Is it advisable to wear beach shoes to get into the water on the beach? Is there an enforced dress code for dinner. Do gentlemen have to wear long trousers at dinner? Can you hire beach towels from the hotel? Is one required to wear a bathing cap in the pools? How far from the hotel is the best pizzeria? I believe that hotel guests can use the umbrellas and beds on the beach. Are there a good number of electric sockets in the room or should I take a 'four bar' with me? Are there plenty clothes hangers in the wardrobe and does the hotel supply good toiletries or should I take my own. All these little things add up to a lot of weight. Thanks.......
