If anyone is staying overnight at Heathrow on 17 Feb, I have booked the Hilton at Terminal 4, let me know and we can meet up for a drink.

Hi New member here. I have just come across this site and I am sorely tempted in the trip to Vietnam. As it will be my first solo holiday, you will understand my reservations. Just looking for some pointers on what to expect.

Hi Kath and all, I have booked overnight in the Hilton T4 on 17th February prior to the 10:50 flight on 18th February.

Hopefully we can get together that evening to introduce ourselves.

See you .... Pete

Hi Kath, Pete and All,

I've just booked into the Hilton for the night before too 🙂 be good to meet up :)

I've been reading the info JY sent about Vietnam and it's cold in the north and sunny in the south, so I'm wondering what clothes to take, because 'cold' to those living there, might be the same temperature as a British summer...so shorts and t-shirts to us lol!!!

Hi Kate, I did this tour in Feb 2013 and it was mild in Hanoi and unfortunately wet so I'd definitely bring at least one long sleeved shirt and trousers and some raingear! It was a bit warmer in Halong and hot from Hue onwards - definitely shorts and T shirt weather there!

Hope you have a great tour, I loved it!

Cheers,

Bob

Hello Kath,

I have just returned from Vietnam and I echo what Bob has said. You will definitely need a rain jacket for Hanoi. It is an amazing tour you will love it.

All,

I'm wondering if I can take a hard suitcase, or does it need to be a soft one?

Thanks

Kate

Hi Kate, no problem taking a hard suitcase - in fact it's the best type to take with all the hardship it'll get, being turfed around airports and being put on and off the coach every few days!

Cheers,

Bob

I booked my first JY holiday to Texas in April last year. It was daunting travelling on my own, but when I got to the gate at Heathrow, the group was there with the tour guide, who greeted me like an old friend and introduced me to the group. Some of them said they'd been nervous about booking a singles holiday too!

On the plane, Jackie came to us each of us every few hours, to have a chat, which was great, she told us where to meet when we got to the airport, which we did and all walked to the coach together. She told us about the itinerary for the next few days and it was full on!

I was amazed with the organisation at the hotels, there was no queuing up to fill in a form and check-in. We enjoyed the free refreshments, while she checked us in and then gave us each an envelope with our room keys.

My friends think I'm brave going on holiday on my own, but on a singles holiday everyone's in the same boat and you're never alone, unless you want to be!!

Hello all you lucky people going to Vietnam!

For those of you who are staying at the Hilton at T4, and who don't want to eat in the Hilton (and pay Hilton prices!), may I suggest having a meal in the terminal. Cafe Rouge in particular is excellent, and is brilliant for "people watching". That's where I will be going when I stay at the Hilton - it is only about a 10 minute walk through the "walkway" from the hotel.

Have a brilliant time!

Cheers,

Hils

Hi,

I've got my Dongs for this trip, but just noticed on the JY travel docs, it mentions paying the tour guide in USD for trips. Did I do the right thing getting Dongs, or should I have got USD?
