Hi folks, I'm booked to go on this trip in September. Was wondering if anyone has any tips. With regard to clothing, I know we'll go through some varying temperatures, so I'm guessing layers a good idea... not sure about footwear tho. I'd just be interested to hear of experiences and any do's and dont's.

Many thanks

Lynne

I went on this trip in May this year - we experienced every kind of weather known to man!

All part of the fun 🙂 Windy Chicago, snow at the Grand Canyon, Vegas scorching hot. And much, much more.

But September might be more settled.

Prepare if you wind up in Oklahoma City on a Sunday - the hotel won't serve dinner

and the bar will be shut. Day of rest.

There's so much to experience on this tour I wouldn't know where to start.

But I'm really jealous! When we arrived in LA I just wanted to go back to the beginning and start the tour again.

Take a good guide to Route 66 - there's so much to miss if you're not alert. It's full of surprises.

Oh yes - and some appropriate music to plug into your ears while you cover those miles!

Can anyone tell me how many people are booked on the 14th September Route 66 trip. And the ratio of male/female.

Many thanks.

I hope you're looking forward to your trip!

Hi I did route 66 last September...What an amazing trip!! Lucky you! Yes layers is good, remember you are travelling south and then west... I didn't even take a jacket and didn't need one. A couple of cardies might do. You don't need fancy clothes tho there is "Branson" which is a show town...I wasn't going to go but I'm glad I did in the end, and Vegas of course! It'll be pretty hot most of the time especially if you're going out during the day for a walk. In Vegas I shocked my group by visiting a firing range...Big guns!! very well supervised , organised for me by the hotel concierge. Expensive but worth it...go with a group...it's more fun. Take as much money as you can (not that things are expensive) but the native American jewellery (turquoise and silver) is beautiful! So leave some room in your case! only other advice I found really useful is "packing bags or large net wash bags (from Lakeland) Roll clothes in these and all T shirts in one, shorts in another etc. easy to get at when you,re doing one night stops. Also packs of undies..£4 for 5 pants from Matalan. . same with socks. Take lots and throw them away each evening...a relatively small outlay for convenience...no washing...and more space for goodies! Have a brill hol!! ECB

PS Wear trainers or shoes but mainly it'll probably be hot so sandals are best, you don't need fancy extra shoes. ECB.

Hello Monty,

Are those figures correct? Of all the JY holidays I have been on (17), men have always very much been in the minority.

Hi David G,

These figures are correct - I did have to double check myself.

Eek... that's a lot of guys. Is the trip fully booked, Monty...might there be a chance of more females joining the group?

HI ljordan,

It is not fully booked - there are 19 spaces available, so there is plenty of room for more females to join you and your group.

Kindest regards,

Monty

To ECB...thankyou very much for your tips...brilliant and very helpful...especially the underwear tip! Am sort of looking forward to it now...bit nervous but there ya go. Love the idea of the shooting range...will seek it out. Was just going to wear sneakers but may try to get some sandals.

Thanks again.

Hi Monty, has the group size increased at all on this trip...if so, are there any more females joining us? Also be interested to have a rough idea of the age span. Many thanks.

Hi ljordan,

There are still 21 people booked - so no more bookings since the last update. This is an exclusive Manchester departure, which means that every one booked on this tour is going from Manchester.

I hope this helps.

Kindest regards,

Monty
