I think these SINGLE holiday sites are a great idea, its a great way of meeting people, BUT they are all so overpriced! most of the holidays are double the price . They state there are no single supplements, there obviously is. I was intrested in going to MYKANOS, I looked everywhere online, I could go there for under six hundred pounds! with flights and room included/b and b/ also INDIA is much cheaper. I find it is sometimes cheaper to go with a tour company and just pay the single room supplement, sometimes its thirty pounds, sometimes its over a hundred, but it still works out cheaper! im not knocking JUST YOU im complaining about SOLOS ONE TRAVELLER and all the others jumping on the bandwagon, I just wish someone would start a travel agent for single travellers with NO single supplements, they would make a fortune and be so popular! I expect this post will disappear from the forum, but ive been really going through all the options of a cheaper holiday, just cant afford to pay this amount of money all the time

Hi

I am sure there are lots of cheap deals out there, but do they include everything - i.e. tour manager, a large room, most meals, few excursions etc? I personally prefer to travel with Just You as everything is taken care of and I feel safe and secure. I also know that most Just You travellers will be on their own and in the same boat. I am sure it is not easy to negotiate a large room for a single traveller with hotels as most of them would like 2 people to share - these way they can accommodate more people. I rather pay a bit more in the knowledge that I am travelling with a reputable company who will ensure my safety.

Hello, I agree on the face of it these holidays seem expensive, but you are looked after from start to finish,

a coach waiting at the airport, a tour manager, included tours and the company of others to talk and have meals with

and usually excellent hotels.

I have been on bargain holidays by my self where at the airport I have to find transport to my hotel

then eat on my own wonder the streets not knowing where to go or what to do and no one to talk to.

As they say you get what you pay for.

Dave.

It so agree with Jaya and Dave, YES I agree it is a lot of money, but I know that someone has an eye in me, I get so see so much in a very safe group, I go for the full on tours and it's so nice just to queue up and be let in and not keep having to put my hand in my pocket all the time. I have stayed in some fantastic hotels and seen so much along the way, it's been lovely to meet such a varid mix of people and spend time with over shared meals and a shared adventure etc..

My days of bargain bucket holidays and having a bedroom the size of a shoe box is long gone..

Crystal,

As somebody that has done both these group holidays and gone completely solo I do agree they are more expensive.

For me its the type of holiday that you want to do, if you want to go to a resort and have a week on a beach in the sun then it makes financial sense to go with the likes of Thomas Cook, Thomsons, Jet2, etc. Also you do have a tour rep/contact in resort to help with any problems although its not the same as having a tour manager with you.

However thats not my type of holiday, i prefer the touring type hols or resorts where i can do lots of excurrsions and the likes of JY provides that for me, i've done some fantastic trips.

One are i've done totally solo many times is city breaks, i can do that much cheaper but it involves sorting out transfers, often using public transport to get around and dealing with your own problems. I understand not everyone is a experienced traveller and many like to comfort of having a tour manager and things organised for them, nothing wrong but that is what you pay for. The budget only goes so far each year so by going solo often means i can do more holidays.

Of course the big plus on group holidays (well it is for me), is the many friends you make and having someone to sit with at meal times, i keep in touch with a good few. Still they are things that shouldn' effect the price of the holiday just a bonus of going on a group holiday.

Be careful what you wish for!

I did a "regular holiday" with Newmarket Travel last September, and paid a small supplement. The company had a no seat-swapping arrangement, so singles were paired on the daily coach trips., and at meals. Luckily my allotted partner and I got on well. However, there was one man who couldn't wait to get away from his allotted partner.....

No such problems with JY.

Cheap isn't everything.

Hello All,

So agree with all the comments made. Have you ever tried to add up all the excursions on these cheap holidays? Can be horrendous. One of the main reasons why I love Just You is the fact you get so much extra. I went with 15 couples and 2 singles , both aged over 75 to the Deep South of USA- horrendous trying to join in activities so I vowed then in 2008 I would only go with singles company and Just You was the one I chose :)

Hi

I have just received another envelope of information for my first "Just You" trip at Christmas. I am really pleased with the way i have been treated so far. The Just You team could not be more friendly and helpful. The pack I received contained lots of helpful advice and tips.... It may cost a bit more but I wonder if other companies provide the level of service i have received so far? usually single travelers are treated as a nuisance hence the single supplements.

It was with a bit of trepidation I embarked on my first solo trip but now i am looking forward to it......

It all comes down to value for money. I am happy to pay for good service and quality hotels. Some tour managers are much more efficient than others, and they can make or break a holiday. One manger in particular, was a heavy smoker: when we arrived anywhere, the first thing he did was leap off the coach for a smoke, leaving the group either standing waiting around or making their own way to the hotel reception desk. I will not name and shame, have seen the name allocated to upcoming tours. I made JY when I arrived home. The standard of hotels used also varies. On some tours hotels billed as three star or only up to motel standards. The brochure needs to give more accurate descriptions.

I looked into the cost of doing this myself - hiring a car, booking the hotels, the extra trips etc, and while I could get it roughly 30% cheaper, I would have been driving solo on long roads that often don't see traffic, and as much as I am a sociable person and will converse with anyone, just chatting to some random stranger at different points isn't quite the same as chatting with someone doing the same tour; it's also nice knowing if I run into any problems there are other's around that could help out - safety in numbers too.

I will admit I did consider using another company for the exact same trip - even with their single supplement (which EVERY tour company, travel agents and hotels WILL add on regardless) they were still about £500 cheaper, but then I sat back and remembered an escorted trip I did before (I was with someone that time) and I remember how out of place the one single traveler on the trip seemed to be (we made her as welcome as we could) and I didn't want to be that spare cog at a couples party, so I paid the extra and am hoping JY live up to the expectations I have of them (this is the first time I have used them).

I also like the idea that if I really didn't get on with my fellow travelers (and I can only imagine what a horrendous person someone would need to be to not get on with anyone - I like to think I'm a genuine nice person - or that there is a massive group booking on my trip, something I have heard can happen and therefore the group can be quite cliquey) that the days out are still planned, and so therefore I wouldn't have to worry about being stranded in a strange place having to make my own way around. For me it's worth paying the extra

I started travelling with Just You after having been on a holiday in Provence with another wellknown company where there were 3 or 4 "singles" and the rest of the group of 36 was either married couples (mainly over 70) or family groups of 2, 3 or 4. The women in the couples made it plain that they considered their husbands were God's gift to females and that any single female was obviously only after one thing! One or two others in the group were friendly but I always felt totally out on my own. I vowed I wouldn't go on such a holiday again.

I've done enough travelling on my own not to want to do that again and going with Just You gives me the best of both worlds - everything organised for me, company when I want/need it and space to be on my own if that's how I feel at any point. However one travels, being a "single" is always going to be more expensive but I do feel that I am getting value for money with JY. No-one is forced to go with JY so...

Hi, I was married for 44 years lost my husband 5 years ago, we always travelled together always just as a couple 2 or 3 times a year, sometimes we would make friends with single travellers on the same holiday,

Now I am on my own, I do not want to stop having holidays.but find that travelling on couples holidays, I am not comfortable talking to couples as I feel as if I am intruding on there holiday, also if there are say 2 couples and invite me to join them, there is always an empty chair. and feel the odd one out.

JY single holiday is now my first choice, I will be taking my 4th holiday with JY next month, I would rather pay a little bit more, to be travelling with like minded people, there is always someone interesting to tallk to, I have also made new friends whilst holidaying with JY. Regards

I find one of the best part of going with JY is the fact that as I am disabled the company looks after you very well, making sure that

it is suitable for you to go on. Also the tour managers so far have been told to look after me, and they do, making sure I am alright and coping. I find that very reassuring as I could be stuck not knowing if

I should do a certain activity or not. I was very ill coming back from

Kenya two years ago and the tour manager gave up her seat and

made sure she sat next to me on both flights, and even climbed over

me when I fell asleep. I think I might have ended up in a foreign

hospital if she had not been there for me. Also I am fairly shy and

nervous going on my own so its comforting to know I can talk to

him/her and they will help me. It is expensive and I would like to

do more than one in a year but I would rather have it as it is and

feel safe and comfortable and miss out on a second holiday than

have 2 cheaper ones.

I have to say the ONLY thing that bothers me about justyou, is when they advertise "no single supplement" when as intelligent adults we all know full well it is included in the price; I believe they should actually drop that wording from their advertising as it is patently not true. However, having said all that I agree totally with all the other contributors, having all the things in place that you would otherwise have to locate, source & book for yourself makes it worth all the money for me. Knowledgeable guides, company, there will likely be someone always looking out for you.....oh where's so & so? shouldn't they be back by now....as opposed to no-one knowing who you are or where you are! it's a complete no brainer for me.

thanks everyone for the advice, I will be booking with JY just deciding what holiday to take, and I will just have to do a bit more overtime at work lol

Hi Crystalbling55,

I agree that single traveller holidays are more expensive than your average holiday.

I have used another company for many years and they offer either a single supplement or they pair you up with another person of the same sex for a reduced cost. When I've used them I've always been very lucky and always had an excellent room mate.

I have always found JY to be reasonable value, having a tour manager means theres someone to deal with any issues that may arise, i'd rather pay a small premium rather than have to deal with any issues that may arise

I have a friend who has travelled all over the world and is the expert at sniffing out a bargain holiday. When I told her about Just You she initially thought it was expensive and yes you can do the same holidays for less. But as has been said you wouldn't have a 24 hr tour rep, coaches on tap as needed, local knowledge of where to go, see and eat. 4/5 star hotels with a twin room to yourself and best of all knowledge that most of the group are on the same wavelength as you and in the same circumstances i.e wanting to travel but not necessarily having a companion to do it with. Now she agrees with me that it is not as over priced as it first appears and in fact you get a lot for your dosh.

I personally would not want to be 'paired off' with a stranger even if this brought the cost down, so would rather pay a bit more and travel with Just You.
