I am new to JY, and in the hope of booking a holiday sometime soon, I decided to renew my passport as my old one only had a few months left before it expired. I sent it via the Post Office 'Check & Send' about two weeks ago, and I'm wondering if other travellers have any experience of how long it takes to receive a replacement passport please?

Obviously I will not book a holiday until I receive my new passport, but would be grateful for anyone else's experience. Thanks.

Hi Chelsea Girl

I renewed my passport a few years ago at the end of October and the replacement arrived the following week - a very quick turn around but they had spelt my name incorrectly so I had to return it!!! I think I remember reading that passport offices are less busy during the months of October to March.

The passport office should return your old cancelled passport first then the new one shortly after by courier. I think you can check the status of your application online at the gov.uk website.

Regards

Hi"

I renewed my passport in January. I did "check and send" too. The new passport came exactly 7 days later through the normal post and my old one came back to me on the following day.

Good luck.

Mine was returned in 6 days in early December 2013, by courier. My old passport was returned the next day in the post.

Thank you to everyone who replied to me. Just to say that I received my new passport today, two and a half weeks after I applied through the Post Office Check & Send. Rather surprised, as it was just delivered through the letterbox, no-one rang the bell (so much for verifying identity!).

Anyway, I can now get around to booking my holiday.

Thanks for letting us know what happened. It is good to get follow up information. We don't very often get to know the results of the postings.

Enjoy your holiday
