Just joined the forum in the hope of speaking with someone who has been to Costa Rica/Nicaragua in the last 12 months. Will hopefully be booking soon but need a little reassurance! Can;t seem to post an icon so this will have to do 🙂 Bridget

Hi Bridget

This is one holiday I would love to do. Looking at the brochure and the itinerary it is a fantastic trip. If you really want to do this trip then I would say go ahead and book it. Life is too short!

Regards

Hi Bridget!

I'm doing this tour in March so I'll post a review on my return. It should be a great tour, so if you can't wait that long I'd say - go ahead and book it!

All the best,

Bob

Hi Anna, very kind of you to say so! I always try to put myself in the place of someone who is either nervous or knows little about the destination, to explain the tour as best I can! Hope you have a fantastic holiday wherever you travel this year....

Cheers,

Bob

I thought this tour only ran in the Autumn?

Very confused!

Hi Bridget

I went to Costa Rica in sept 2012 with JY. My trip did not include Nicaragua though. I had a great time, the weather was hot and we had some rain too. Beautiful scenery and lovely hotels. Is there anything in particular you would like to know?

Hi Lucinda

I have been trying to find out how expensive the optional tours are likely to be. Can you help? I at present have very low confidence in this company.

Does anyone know how much the optional excursions are likely to be on the Costa Rica/Nicaragua trip. Bob seems to be going in March when the tour is only advertised as going in the autumn! B

Hi Bridget,

The tour is now only advertised for the autumn months now as the March date is fully booked.

In terms of the Optional Excursions prices (correct at the time of posting this message) are as follows;

Pre-bookable

* Penas Blancas River Trip: £40

* Tabacon Hot Springs: £60

* Managua and Masaya Volcano National Park Tour: £55

* Tarcoles River Mangrove Cruise: £27

* Pre-bookable Penas Blancas River Trip/ Tarcoles River Mangrove Cruise and Managua and Masaya Volcano National Park Tour package: £116

Bookable in resort

* Hanging Bridges of Arenal: £22

* Night Walk: £14

* Pacific Aerial Tram: £42

* Lake Nicaragua Boat Trip and Carriage Ride: £20

* Canopy Zip Wire Tour: £45

Hope this information helps.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Hi Bridget

Once holidays are fully booked they disappear from the online brochure which is why the march date probably isn't there.

It looks like Julia has given you a great rundown of the prices for optionals, a lot of them are different to the ones I did back in 2012. There were a few extra optionals when I was there that weren't included in the final documents like going in search of turtle hatching so I'd say add a bit more on to what has already been advised ( but this seems to be the case on a lot of the trips - the guides just want us to see everything there is to see!). Costa Rica in general wasn't expensive to eat unless you splashed out.

The company is really good, if it's a trio you fancy then go for it, so far I have not been disappointed. Yes it's a bit pricer than other companies but you always get great hotels, a good guide and tour manager and you can do as much or as little as you like with the group. We saw great scenery and nature including sloths and monkeys. I did most of the optionals when I went which were good. It was a great destination, and it looks like an improved itinerary. If you fancy it go for it.

Any other questions I will try and answer

Hi All

I did the Costa Rica/Nicaragua tour last September and had an absolutely brilliant time. The scenery and wildlife encountered were amazing and it is definitely somewhere that I will return to again one day.

Lucinda provided me with some useful info before I went in respect of Costa Rica which I am sure you will find if you search but I will also aim to put a further review together for you all with useful hints and tips.

In the meantime please feel free to post any questions you may have and I will do my best to answer them.

I have no doubt that you will have a fantastic holiday.

Take care

Janet

Hi Janet,

Many thanks for your comments, made me even more excited! I just have one question really - did you have to use DEET spray every day and did people take anti-malaria (malarone) tablets while away?

Cheers,

Bob

Hi Bob

Yes it was highly recommended that we used the tropical strength DEET both day and night as, although there did not seem to be a lot of mosquitos, some people were regularly getting bitten. We were also advised that the area we visited in Nicaragua does have Dengue fever which made it all the more important to use during daytime.

Unless things have changed since last September malaria tablets were not required for the areas of Costa Rica you are visiting. Some of our group, including myself, took malaria tablets as one of the trips in Nicaragua took you into an area where there was a very slight risk so it was a case of just taking the precaution. If you do decide to take them then the Chloroquine type are sufficient and these are available for approx £5 per pack.

If you do think of anything else then please don't hesitate to ask.

Have a great time

Janet

Thank you to everyone. Your comments have been appreciated. I am finding this site really difficult to use... I generally only do relatively simple things on the internet.... so hope that this gets to you all.

Many thanks

Bridget 🙂
