I have been going on Just You holidays since 2005,and my last one was to the US in April.I wanted to go back to Vegas again for my 40th birthday for April next year and got flights booked ready to go with a friend.

Sadly this friend due to circumstances is no longer going and Ive now cancelled her seat but still have my own booked.

I cannot bear to lose the flight money as I get no refund and I still like to try to go ahead on this trip,but it looks like I be going alone.:blush:

Anyone interested in meeting me in Vegas or coming along would be great,or if any one has any advice to give me on my upcoming trip as I admit I really fear I be very lonely there if I go and be on my own the whole 6 days.:blush:

I've only been to Vegas with JY (3 times now), but I have done many other American cities totally solo in the past. In fact thinking of doing a solo trip again early this year but not sure where yet but think it'll be late March or easter depending on deals I can find.

You'll be fine as long as you stick to the tourist areas (Strip or Freemont st).

One thing I dont enjoy when on my own is eating in restaurants usually stick to pubs or bars and find rather than sit at a table its a good idea to sit at the bar to eat, people on their own often do this and you often get chatting with someone, especally after they hear your British accent.

Shame your friend has dropped out especially with it been a birthday trip.

I have been a number of times on my own and have not felt out of place at all.

You do not stand out in any way as there are many couples where one half spends time in the casino whilst the other does not. Eating can sometimes make you a bit self consious but I always take a book so that I can 'hide' if need be and have generally found it fine.

I would recommend a central strip location - not only to be near all the action but because the areas will be busier. The Flamingo is excellent location and reasonably priced but is a bit shabbier than some of the more modern ones like Bellagio. There is so much security around the hotels and casinos that I have always felt it to be one of the safest cities to visit. Normal precautions re handbag etc of course apply.

I've just had a thought. How about contacting "Ask Your Editor" to see if there is any possibility of your joining a tour that is going to Las Vegas next April.

Maybe some arrangement could be come to where you could pay just for the Las Vegas part of the tour, same hotel, trips, etc., but making your own way to and from the airport to the Hotel?

Don't know if this would be feasible and I certainly don't want to set the cat among the pigeons, nor create a precedent but it might be worth getting in touch with Julie (Editor) to see if she can give you any advice.

I'm nearly 59 but young at heart. I am enjoying early retirement.

What I did was book some tours before the holiday online, if you do a search online you will find some. I did an evening tour of the hotels and Fremont St which I recommend if you haven't done it. I also booked a trip to the Hoover Dam one day and a trip to the Area 51 area another day. There are a lot of other trips such as Death Valley NP, Bryce Canyon, Zion Canyon, Lake Mead trips and Los Angeles but some of them will be very long days. The trip company will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel.

On the other days I visited the local Natural History Museum and the Mormon Fort, looked in the hotels along the strip which I had not seen on my previous visit. There are some attractions in these such as Mandalay Bay and Luxor, I did the Shark Reef in Mandalay Bay but it was a bit overpriced for what it was. I think in the Luxor they have Titanic exhibit and also for those of a ghoulish nature a skeleton exhibition by that german guy. I also visited the Pawn shop from Pawn stars its about a mile north of the Strat and Ricks restorations round the back of the Strat. Another day I did a shopping trip Barnes and Noble, Walmart and Bass Pro fishing shop, there are some outlet malls one about a mile north of the Strat and one about a mile south of Mandalay Bay.

To get around I used the bus system as the Taxis can be quite expensive. A 3 day pass is about $20 and the buses are quite regular and if you look online you can find the route maps to plan your trips. I recommend using the bus to travel between the Strat and Fremont st as some of the area is a bit dodgy looking especially at night. I walked it during the day but I'm a fairly big bloke.

Eating I usually went to Dennys or IHOP for breakfast and had a big breakfast that set me up for the day, also at 8 in the morning you don't feel out of place on your own in these places. So lunch consisted of a cool drink or an ice cream on the go. On an evening I usually went down the Fremont st area and ate in the casinos up there which are better value than the strip. I can recommend the buffet in Main St Station casino up there. The SDX/Deuce bus drops at the top of Fremont st and picks up at the bottom.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Probably will go to Vegas again in the next few years and do Bryce and Zion from there since the NP's were closed on the recent National Parks and LBH trip.

You'll have a great trip I'm sure whether totally solo or someone joins you. If your dates had been earlier (late March to Easter) I'd have been interested as am looking to do something myself.

But am looking to do Slovenia with JY on May 3rd so dates would definately be too close.

So I decided to go to Vegas for a week having visited for 2 days with a Travelsphere tour 2 years earlier and only scraped the surface of what to see. I decided to stay at the Stratosphere as I got a cheap deal and I wanted to see the Fremont St area and it's ideally placed for that.

Yep I went with JustYou last year as part of the West Coast tour and only had about three days in Vegas,like you I would like to go back again and do alot more.
