Can you give me some advice please on the attitude of other travellers in a group if I was to travel long haul and wanted to upgrade my flight ticket.

I am concerned that it might cause some resentment if most of my fellow travellers were travelling economy and I had opted for an upgrade and sat in another area of the plane. Would they consider me stand offish as I wasn't with them for the flight. (I can imagine that people get to know one another during an 8 hour flight and if I wasn't there then I could be seen as deliberately separating myself from the group).

Or am I worrying too much?

Thanks.

YOU are worrying to much... I have just been on the florida tour 5 people upgraded out of the 39 in the group, this we were not really aware of going out, but when they were called to the plane first and think they had priority booking I could be wrong there. We did give them a little gentle rubbing along the lines of we are not posh enough for you etc... but it was said in fun and they took it well.

I have looked at upgrading before now, but never have. These people had upgraded to just the next level, not the lay down beds area, and they did say it was a lot of money for just a smidge more room and a welcome drink and i think a hot flannel???...they still had to use OUR TOILETS!!!!!

I have done many tours and I WOULD NOT think you stand offish, many people up grade for all sorts of reasons..they have the money so why not.. or even health reasons.

You shouldn't find any problems if you upgrade - it's your money to do with what you want. I've upgraded a couple of times and have never been the only one. If you are at all bothered, just don't mention it. Although JY block book seats, people often change them to a preferred location so no one would think it odd if they didn't see you on the flight.

Hi I've done five long haul tours and on all of them (I think) there have been one or more people who have upgraded. To be honest, it doesn't make a scrap of difference to the rest on the tour as they will be scattered all over the plane in any case. If anyone thinks you would be stand-offish for upgrading then that's their problem, not yours! So if you have the money and wish to travel in a bit more comfort, then go for it! I personally prefer to save the money and put it towards the next holiday, but that's my choice!

All the best,

Bob

Hey there,

Look after yourself and dont worry about looking bad- ive known other travellers to do it before. If its between economy and comfort i know what id go for! Everyone is sat allover the plane and people will probably sleep or watch a film so u probably wouldnt chat that much anyway. Hope this helps

Hi

I also have NO problem with anybody who chooses to upgrade and like others have said it's your money to use as you wish, there is always plenty of time to get acquainted once you get there, I think if anyone was that snobbish and wanted to be cut off from the rest then they would surely have just chose another company whereas you do your own thing so really wouldn't worry one bit and enjoy

Hi,

I've done 10 holidays with JY now, and have upgraded to Business Class on 5 of them as they were all long-haul flights. If you have the money - go for it! Costs of upgrades vary enormously depending on the airline that JY use. Be aware that JY do take a cut, so try and negotiate with them! If the flight is anything less than about 5 hours, I travel Economy, but the trouble is once you fly Business Class you don't want to fly anything else! I have had no problem with anyone from the rest of the group, and in virtually every trip have not been the only one to upgrade.

Enjoy the flat beds!

Cheers,

Hils

Hi Chelsea Girl

As others have said if you like a bit of comfort then upgrade you must. I'm off to Florida in September and am going out in premium class but coming back in business class. Florida is about 8 - 9 hours and I want to try and get some sleep coming back as its an overnight flight and I can't sleep sitting up no matter how far back your seat tilts.

Good luck with any decisions you make.

Hi

I wouldn't upgrade, but certainly would not have a problem if anyone else on the tour did. It's your holiday, and if upgrading is for you then do it! I've found people have seats all over the plane!

I haven't upgraded with any JY holiday because I only do short trips with them. Mainly because I wouldn't be able to get the amount of time of work for most of the longer haul.

However I did upgrade to business last year when I flew out to Detroit independently. I can probably only afford to do it once but it was great! First time I have been able to sleep on a longer trip.

Do it and enjoy!

Completely agree with Hils. There is no going back once you have flown business class. I wouldn't mind at all if anyone upgraded. Go for it! It's your holiday after all.

Hi, I did my first longhaul with JY in April. I had heard that JY block book seats and had expected everyone to be sitting as a group. It turned out that we were seated all over the place, so I didn't actually get to meet my fellow travellers until I arrived in San Francisco and we boarded our tour coach. At the end of the holiday, we were all good friends and it made no difference to anyone whether some had opted to upgrade their seats, we just wished them a good flight home! Sue
