Hi,

I have just booked on the tour of vietnam 8-19th november, I would love to hear from anyone else on the trip. It's my first time with Just You and feel both excited and nervous. I have never travelled on my own, but hopefully this will lead to many more trips - I love to travel!

Thank you Tony for your post, look forward to meeting you both. I can't decide whether to book for cycling tour in hoi an and visit to My son - any thoughts? Reviews look interesting, but wonder whether rain might spoil trip. If you both fancy meeting for coffee at heathrow, I can leave my mobile number - nice to put names to faces. ###############.

Hi Chris Nice to hear from you....re the optional excursions ive already asked on another thread for opinions from previous travellers to Vietnam on this matter..if you key in "Vietnam" on the "Search" facility its the thread headed "Vietnam" dated about 10 days ago. The replies i got seemed to say that it might not be worth doing the My Son trip as it takes up nearly all of one of the days in Hoi An thus possibly leaving too little free time to have a proper look at Hoi An. In any case im sure you will be able to book the My Son trip "on the spot" if you decide to go. At present we have booked the cycle tour only.......even if its raining it sounds like it will be fun. Yes definitely up for the coffee at Heathrow but being a technophobe not sure how we exchange the mob nos. :-))

Hi Guys,

I did this trip in September. The cycle ride was one of the highlights of the holiday. We all had a laugh and you get to stop to see how the locals live. Well worth it!!

Just returned from Vietnam & Cambodia on the 18th Oct. An absolutely fantastic trip and as always still too short! The My Son tour is actually half a day with lunch back in Hoi An. As interesting as My Son was in hindsight I should have stayed in Hoi An and got the shuttle bus into the old town and spent the day there. The tour of Kuala Lumpur was not good value - we were given 20 minutes to eat our meal and you can't see much as its evening therefore dark! Enjoyed the trip up the KL tower but again time was short and we really only had 20 minutes to get up and look around. They offer a Vietnamese cookery lesson in Hoi An which was great fun-it was in a proper cookery school and has been mentioned in this months Lonely Planet.

Anything else anyone wants to know please ask!

Hope you all enjoy!

Hi Tony.

Nice to hear from you. Yes I too am flying down on the Wed. 3pm flight from Man. Staying at the Comfort Hotel as recommended by JY!!!

Pity the executive lounge is unavailable. It's usually a good place to meet everyone before the flight.

I'll look out for JY baggage labels.

Hi Chris.

Not sure whether you are male or female but it doesn't matter I'm sure we'll all get on OK. Regarding excursions I think I'll wait until I get there and play it by ear and see how I feel at the time. When I've been on JY holidays before I've always enjoyed the excursions. See you soon.

Hi Jacquline

Thanks for you helpful info.

Can't decide whether I need to take Malaria tablets or not. Information on this subject is varied. Did you take them?

Hi Helen

Getting an earlier flight from Manchester think its 1pm...cant remember the Heathrow hotel name as my mate booked that. Have got Chris mob no and are going to meet up at Heathrow for the suggested coffee...think Ben from Just You has sent it to you as well so maybe see you for a pre-flight natter.

Best regards

Hi Helen,

I didn't take malaria tablets - lots of Deet and keeping the air conditioning on at night in the rooms helped - I only got bitten 3 times and that was when I turned off the air-con in my hotel room in Hue for the night - lesson learned! However, in our group of 36 we had had differing advice from doctors and nurses - I'd say about less than half of the group were taking malaria tablets. My practice nurse said the choice was mine but as I'm in good general health anyway I felt taking the above precautions were fine as the areas we visited were considered low risk apart from Can Tho which was the last stop before Cambodia. The humidity was the 'killer' for us - wish I'd taken one of those small hand held fans, some of our group had those and they were a godsend as you do spend a lot of time in areas without any shade!

You'll have a great time!
