Hi Trevor,

I've recently returned from Halkidiki and there were 40 of us on this trip - my first one abroad with Just You. We were upgraded to the Merliton hotel and it was really lovely. Very clean, food good, company great! The evening entertainment was quite limited as we went slightly "out of season" - bingo and quiz nights was the order of the day! However, I went for a holiday and to meet and enjoy "friends I hadn't yet met" and that's exactly what I got. I'm now due to go to Canada and Alaska in September and am really looking forward to that one now, with no great worries, as if the people on that holiday are half as nice as the ones I've just met, then I'll have a great time - go for it and enjoy!

Take care

Anne

Hi Trevor,

Its my first time to Halkidiki, although I have been with JU many times before, and have enjoyed all the holidays with them. You don't say when you are going to Halkidiki? Im going at the same time as Dawn on the 26th September, so if you are going then I am looking forward to meeting you. I was told that this holiday hotel is the Sithonia Thallasotherapy & Spa Hotel in that area, and it looks very nice from their website.

Take the plunge, I can assure you that you will not regret it.

Hi Sue,, Halkidiki May 16th a really great holiday,my first JY already booked for Tuscany .We were upgraded to the Meliton food rooms all excellant, should have been in the Sithonia but they were having some work done & it was,nt complete in time, they have a casino & I think a disco so I would think entertainment would be really good.

There were 40 on our holiday & as Anne says a really great bunch of people. Have a great time Shirley

Hi Sue,

The Sithonia Hotel is the sister hotel to the one we stayed in and it was in the final stages of being done up when we were there, and people were just starting to arrive towards the end of our stay. As Shirley says, there is a casino and also a disco in that one, so the entertainment should be more varied than in the Meliton. The beach is mostly shingle type, so I would take some beach-type sandals to wear to protect your feet. The beach bar was good - all drinks were free at the beach bar and in the hotel, so no worries there! We had great weather - it was up to 29degrees on the Saturday! Lovely! There are also the usual beach entertainment crew who will organise beach and poolside games for you take part in if you wish - they're good fun! There's also a little boat service which takes you into Neo Marmaris, the local village - the shops close in the afternoon, so go either morning or evening, and the boat leaves the resort on the hour and comes back on the half hour. If you're a tea drinker, I would take some of your own teabags with you as we couldn't get normal "breakfast tea" till about the Thursday! So, relax, go for it, and enjoy!

Take care

Hi Sue,

It's me again - I should have said that Halkidiki is the name of the area and Sithonia is one of the 3 penninsula regions (the middle one of the 3, if you look on map of the area). There were trips out to various places on most days that you can go on - I went to Thessaloniki on the Saturday, but to be honest it was just another city to me, and very expensive too! From what I took from the others who went on some of the other trips, they were good and showed you more of the villages and people - but I suppose it depends on what you like doing. Most of the day trips had you back at the hotel for 5pm - still time to sunbathe and get changed for dinner etc!

Hope that answers your query about Halkidiki! If your tour guide is Lorenza, then you'll find that she's a very kind, caring person.

Take care

Thanks Anne and Shirley for all your comments, very useful. I do hope the Sithonia Thallasotherapy & Spa Hotel will be ready when I go in September. Just one thing I would like to check with you both. In the brochure it says that the distance from the airport to the hotel is 30 mins, I was told by someone else that it is over an hour, (from someone who lives there). Can you tell me how long it took? I do hope that the weather is fine in late September as I have been told its pot luck. Could be boiling hot or rainy. Is the casino and disco actually in the Sithonia Hotel? If it rains a lot I think that is where I will be. Glad to know that there is entertainment and free drinks. Will definitely take tea bags.

Hi Sue, yes its more like 1 1/2 hrs, but by then you will have made so many new friends & its a lovely scenic drive,so sit back & enjoy.

Hi Sue, Shirley has given you the right timescale for the journey to the resort and yes, the entertainment is within the Sithonia Hotel - like I said, guests were beginning to arrive at the Sithonia a few days before we left - we had a wander over to have a "look see" and it does look nice - there's only about a 5 minute walk between the two hotels. I really don't think you'll have anything to worry about on this holiday and we can't, unfortunately, rule the weather! The forecast for us wasn't that hot, but when we got there it was great, and apparently it wasn't usually that hot at that time of year - I guess we were really lucky.

Take care

Thanks Shirley, I thought it might be that, they have it wrong in the brochure. I asked someone else who had flown to Thassalonikia before and they also told me its at least an hour's journey from the airport to the hotel.

Hi Anne, Thanks for the info. The hotel looks fantastic. I've already decided if its raining then I will either be in the gym, the casino or just wandering around by the marina, The scenary looks great.

Hi Sue,

When I tried to book online the other night it came back as "can't be confirmed" and then I got a call from a JU representative who said they were waiting on quotas from BA for the flights. So I'm sat with fingers crossed and may )or may not) see you there!

Hi Sue,

My booking has been confirmed by JU although it involves an earlier flight than the one you're on so I'll be at the hotel a bit before the main party.

See you in September!

Best wishes,

Hi Trevor, that is good news. So if you get there early, get the drinks in and I am sure we will see you at the bar when we arrive, which will probably be late evening
