Hi Pollie and Steve. I am so looking forward to this holiday having read the messages and testimonials and although I'm a bit nervous I know most of us are in the same boat and I'm a friendly easy going type. Steve, I see from earlier messages that you are thinking of flying to Heathrow from Manchester. I have looked at flights with BMI (only one I could find) and they are coming in about £100 with charges and luggage. Are you still thinking of flying or going by other means. I am not doing the add on - would love to- but haven't enough holiday left :0(. I also need to renew my passport as I gather you have to have 3 months left from the departure date (which I didn't know - oops!) Anyway, it would be lovely to hear from you both or anyone else going on 28th October. Let's hope the animals are on form!!

Hi Folks,

I'm considering this hol. Did someone mention an add-on. Where do you find this info?

Re Yellow fever, I think you only need this jab if you're travelling into Kenya from an area that has Yellow fever. Hope so anyway 'cause I can't have one!

Hi Doll

I had to have the yellow fever and I live in Lancashire. It costs £45.00 and you have a little book/certificate to prove you have had it and need to keep it with your passport.

I would strongly reccomend that you check with your local gp surgery, as I think it is mandatory. !

Hi Everyone,

Thanks Cliff for the cloths list. I am going to look at a company called Craghoppers who specialise in outdoor clothing. They sell shirts that keep you cool and trousers that have zip-off legs which convert into shorts - clever eh!! I gather there is a pool at the safari lodge but don't know whether you need to take a towel. A trip is going on the 24th June so hopefully the gang on that will post messages with useful tips.

STEVE, I would be happy to meet up at Manchester Airport (and anyone else). Are you booking your flight independantly or through Just You. I haven't got my confirmation pack yet from my booking so don't know any times. When I do I will go online and check prices and ring JY to compare there's. I don't know how we would arrange to meet cos apparently you can't put personal info (email/phone nos etc)on here for obvious reasons but the Editor will pass a message on. Anyway we can sort that out nearer the time and I could always turn up with zebra skin luggage and carrying a giraffe under my arm!!!! :0).

Is anyone thinking of going on the balloon ride - I rang JY and they said it was around £200 but hey in for a penny eh and if all goes well I fancy trying somewhere different for next holidays so might as well do it while I'm there.

Ah well be in touch again soon

Hi Sandra,

I have rechecked, you only need the Yellow Fever Cert for travelling between infected counties. It is recommended, (obviously, to reduce the chance of you contracting the desease) but it is not mandatory.

Pat

Hi all,

JAN I have been told by Olliy that it might be cheaper booking the flight from Manchester to Heathrow via JY Ihave looked at the how much BMI charge it isaround £74.00 return. I will be looking at flying mid morning to Heathrow. You arrive back at Heathrow about 06.00 the day after you leave Kenya as it is an over night flight.

Thanks for the info on the clothes gave me a good idea what to take.

I would be interested in the ballon flight and if anyone likes a change I am planning to go deep sea fishing at Mombassa.

Info from kenya airways site

http://www.kenya-airways.com/home/information_and_services/plan_your_trip/travel_information/health_information/default.aspx

Vaccination against Yellow Fever, if arriving in Kenya within

6 days after leaving or transiting countries with infected

areas.

Exempt from Yellow Fever vaccination:

- Children under 1 year.

- Those not leaving the airport in Kenya.

- Those not leaving the airport in the countries concerned.

Recommended:

- Vaccination against Yellow Fever for all passengers visiting

any area outside the main cities in Kenya.

- Malaria prophylaxis. Malaria risk - mainly in the malignant

(P. falciparum) form - exists throughout the year in the

whole country. There is normally little risk in the city of

Nairobi and in the highlands (above 2500 m.) of Central,

Rift Valley, Eastern, Nyanza and Western Provinces. P.

falciparum highly resistant to chloroquine and resistant to

sulfadoxine/pyrimethamine reported. Recommended prevention:

IV. The Kenyan Ministry of Health expects travel

representatives to inform their clients about Malaria risk

and recommend them to take the necessary antimalarial

measures.

Warning:

- Passengers not holding valid Yellow Fever certificate, if

required, are subject to quarantine.

Hi Steve

I spoke to Customer Services and the lady said there is no connecting flight and we would have to book our own. It does say in the brochure that flights can only be arranged on certain destinations and Kenya doesn't look like one of them. (It hasn't got the logo) She also said not to book anything until we get final confirmation of the flights to Kenya as the times could change, we should get these a month before departure. Have to hope the prices don't increase too much. We will have to go through Olly to exchange email addresses sometime later so that we can arrange flights, meeting point etc. Can't wait to do balloon ride and also want to do the dolphon Dhow. Never done fishing before but might have a go if I've any money left!!!! Are you doing the add-on?

Regards Janet
