Your friend is correct. You won't need to pay any extra for your hold luggage provided you are within the limit mentioned on your paperwork (this will be sent to you two weeks before you fly).
You won't be assigned a seat but it's likely that you will meet some of the group at check-in and in the departure lounge so it should be possible to sit with at least some of the group on the plane.

Hi Fee I will ask my colleagues for you. Can you let me know your booking reference? Kind regards, Olly, your editor
Hi Fee
I will ask my colleagues for you. Can you let me know your booking reference?
Kind regards,
Hello Olly. My booking reference is ****. I was chatting to someone over the weekend who thought that you can't actually choose seats on their flights. She also thought that when you book through a tour operator they do include the charge for hold baggage in the price. Anyway, I would be very grateful for anything you can find out!
Many thanks.
Fiona
EasyJet allow you to check in online whether you have hold luggage to check in or not.
So if you have hold luggage, you can still check in online but you will need to queue up at the check-in desk and deposit your luggage.
Passengers who only have hand luggage can proceed straight to security.
You can find more details on the easyJet website:

I am a bit confused. The docs you have sent say that you can check in online if you have hand luggage only. Then it goes on to say that all passengers need to enter their passport details through the online check in system otherwise the booking will be cancelled.
Can you confirm what I am supposed to do if I have a case as well as hand luggage.
Thanks
Lindsay
