Hi to anyone who is going or has been to Borneo...
What is the best strength Deet to get for this destination?
I've read that there is a risk of Zika and dengue and I am a mosquito's idea of lunch
Thanks

Hi Sue,
I went to Borneo last May and thankfully the mossies weren't a problem! I took 50% DEET - I don't think you can get 100% any more as it tends to dissolve anything it comes into contact with! An alternative to consider is the Boots Light Fragrance repellent which doesn't contain DEET but is given a strength rating of 3 out of 4 (50% DEET has a 4 rating) and is now recommended for tropical destinations - it is easier on the skin and smells much better! I've used it since and so far haven't had any problems. The thing is to make sure you cover all exposed skin evenly rather than smearing it on quickly and to put it on about 15/20 mins after sun screen, to make sure the cream has been absorbed before you put the repellent on. Best of luck!
Cheers,
Bob

Hi there Sue
Well I am off to Cambodia in November and I am taking the highest "Jungle Formula factor 4" which is 50% deet, I have been to Australia a few times and always use it there, I always carry a smaller can in my bag too when I'm out and about over there as like you the mozzies love me, you might want to take a none drowsy anti histamine too. You might need to check with your doctor to see if you need any jabs.
Enjoy your trip
Mo

I wouldn't use anything with Deet. I use Incognito from Holland and Barrett - a repellant lotion, a hair and body shampoo and body lotion. I always wear long sleeved t-shirts, long trousers, socks and a hat. I bought a net for over my hat in Tresspass for a couple of pounds which came in handy on the many trips in the long boats in Borneo.

Thanks for the tip about the net!
