Hi Vickie

Whilst checking the requirements for on arrival visa to Laos, I noticed the following statement on the web page.

Note: On weekends, Lao public holidays, before 8am and after 4pm weekdays, there is a $1 over time fee. In addition an entry fee (2,500 Kip or so) may be charged.

Is this likely to affect our group?

Hi All

I've just spoken to an advisor re visas. It has been explained that although the it's possible to get a visa on arrival at Phnom Penh the wait could run into hours. If the rest of the group have prearranged visas then the coach to the hotel will leave without those in the queue for visas.

I am definitely getting mine in advance as I don't want to get left behind at the airport!

I hope this info is of use

Hi Sue,

Thank you for the heads up. I signed up for the JY visa service when I booked & in view of your comments I think I will stick with it. The extra you pay could reap dividends in time saved.

Best, Ian

Please could you give some feed back on the on line process. I will need to get a visa for my trip In February.  From what I can see, it looks quite straightforward.

I am sorry but this is outrageous.  Every post on here and on trip advisor says that is takes approx. 15 minutes.  Is this a ploy by JY to get us to pay there admin fees.

What about Laos where you cannot get an e-visa - I cannot get to an Embassy so will have to do it on arrival.  Am I going to left at the airport in Siem Reap?

Hi Sarah,

We don’t recommend the online visa process as historically it has been temperamental. We recommend the full visa in your passport. This also means you avoid the long queues on arrival into Cambodia.

Thanks,

Vickie

Hi Jonah,

As we don't use the online visa process, we can't comment on the process times. We recommend that you get a visa before arrival to help ensure you have a smoother process on arrival, but of course this is up to the individual customer.

The Laos visa process is very simple and quick. Most travellers obtain their visa for Laos on arrival and as we travel as a group we go through all together, which makes the process very smooth.

Thanks,

Vickie

Hi Jonah,

We've checked and no extra fee will apply for your group.

Thanks,

I went on this trip in Febuary. I applied for my Cambodia visa online. I cann't remember how long it took but it was very quick, only a day or two.

I got my Laos visa on arrival. You have to fill in a form and stick your photo on it. I downloaded the form and completed it in advance. Then just follow the other people from desk to desk through imigration. Have your dollars ready.

You will have a great time. I have done many singles trips and this was definatly one of the best for me.

I flew from Hanoi to Siem  Reap two years ago. Visas on arrival had been arranged and paid for by the tour operator. On arrival our passports and photos were taken from us and returned with visa stamps nearly an hour later. A very anxious wait without a passport in a foreign country. I certainly would not travel to Cambodia again with obtaining a visa in the UK. Just imagine how unpopular anyone arriving without a visa would be with the rest of the group!  Having successfully negotiated the Indian on line visa application, I shall be applying on line for my Cambodian one

So just to clarify.

For Cambodia JY want the group to have the visa before they arrive but for Laos the visa on arrival will be OK.

Hi Jonah,

That's what we recommend, so that the process is as smooth and easy as possible for you on arrival, but of course it's completely up to you whether you get a visa beforehand or on arrival.

Thanks,

Vickie

Thanks Vickie

May I suggest that it would be useful to have this information included in the 15 week travel documents?  I have checked and there is no reference to visas at all.

Hi Jonah,

Here's the process we use for visas, which I hope is helpful:

If you are travelling to a country that requires a visa, a visa fact sheet is produced with your confirmation invoice, outlining the requirements and what will happen next.

If you choose to use our visa service the following process is in place:

If customers have opted to have their documents by post the visa info pack goes out with their 15 week holiday info.

If customers have opted to have their documents by email, the visa info pack is emailed at 10 weeks before departure.

Those customers that wish to obtain their own visa, we ask to call us to let us know. We then don’t send out any visa info, as they are not using our service.

Thanks,

Vickie

Thanks Vickie

I have not received a visa information sheet.  By confirmation invoice, if you mean when you pay the final balance then this isn't due until 12 weeks before departure.

Hi Jonah,

Apologies you didn't receive this, customers should be sent a visia information sheet at the time of booking, then they will get a reminder with their 15 week documents if they have not opted to either get a visa from us, or told us they want to obtain their own visa.

I will follow up with the team regarding why you didn't receive one.

Thanks,

Vickie

I also didn’t receive a visa information sheet with the confirmation of my February 2019 booking. Could you arrange for the information to be sent to me please.
