Reading through the final information for my trip on 15th July, this is still referring to a Chinese visa despite being advised by JY that this is not necessary for the Beijing add on.

The luggage allowance is stated as 23kg + 5kg hand luggage on Air China but no allowance is given for the internal flight to Gobi.  Further on it states that the luggage allowance is 15KG on the 4 x 4's.  So just to clarify, the TOTAL luggage allowance including hand luggage is 15kg for the Mongolia leg of the holiday and bigger allowance only applies to the return flight from Ulaanbaatar to Beijing and Beijing to Heathrow.

What are the luggage arrangements - will luggage be transported in a separate 4 x 4 or with the traveller it belongs to?  Just trying to suss out how to split luggage up so that the essentials are to hand - presumably travellers can still have hand baggage on the 4 x 4 e.g camera bag etc?

With reference to the ger's - will towels be provided?  I have assumed toiletries will not.

Many thanks

Good Afternoon Jonah,

You will be receiving a call from us soon to clarify luggage information. You will not need a Chinese Visa as you get 72 hours visa free. When you receive the call fro us, you should confirm this again for more security.

Only toilet paper and towels are provided in ger camps.

Kind Regards,

Mildred

Thanks Mildred

I have had the call from JY and for other travellers benefit.  The luggage allowance is 15 kg in a suitcase and 5 kg hand luggage but the hand luggage must be capable of being carried in your lap.

Good news on the towels - that helps with the weight restriction a bit!!

Really getting excited now and also a little bit nervous.  Would be good to hear from anyone else on this trip.

Hi Loraine

Lovely to hear from you.  I believe there are 11 on main tour, not sure if all are doing the add on which I am.  The tour manager is Yvette Barnett who has had very good reviews from other travellers on other tours.  Yes I am planning to take a backpack as well as a bum bag for money and passport.

As to clothes, it is likely to be hot and possibly humid in most places but cool at night particularly in the Yoi Valley so I will be packing very thin clothes but with scarves/long sleeve top for covering up against sun or wind and possibly if required for cultural reasons.  Shoewise as these are the heavy items I will take trekking sandals and closed in shoes for the dune walk and some Croc thongs.  We aren't in Beijing long so won't be packing any 'dressing up' gear.

At least we will have plenty of spare capacity for the return flight home and duty free etc.  Only 10 days to go - so excited.
