Hi - I'm doing this Trip on 6th September & got the itinerary / info / tickets etc but there there are no hints or tips re clothes etc so I'm taking a mixture of casual comfortable things to wear during the day and a good pair of walking shoes , then some shorts for evening I googled the weather there and it's quite warm.im also taking swim wear as there are pools in all the hotels allocated .

Hope this helps Jill ?

I am booked on the trip on the 13th September and would be interested to know from any others that have been about clothing and footwear required.

One thing that is a bit ambiguous is these statements:

" You are entitled to check-in in one piece of luggage per person. The maximum weight of each piece of luggage must not exceed 23kgs. "

 and

Rocky Mountaineer

Storage space on board the Rocky Mountaineer is limited, so please take this into consideration when packing. "

My luggage on the Rocky Mountaineer will be that same as for the flight so I assume that what ever was good enough for the plane will fit on the train?

As for clothes - I am packing for summer, plus one water proof, and one fleece.

Shoes for walking, shoes for evening. (It's a lot easier for us men!)

I'm on the 6th September trip.

Hello, everyone, I am going on the Rocky Mountaineer holiday on 6th September.

Feeling nervous as this is my first trip. Has anyone got any tips about meal costs etc, And also will a backpack be useful or a nuisance?

Folks

I would like to clarify that your suitcase does NOT  go with you on the rocky mountaineer train.

Space is so limited that all luggage is transferred by road in a large van and your case will be delivered to your overnight hotel.  It's hand luggage only on the train and this will be by your feet as there are no overhead luggage racks. When I went we stayed in a different hotel to the silver grade people albeit it was for one night only. Train seat numbers are given out to everyone just before you board and these are your allocated seats for the 2 days. Hope this helps a bit.

Hi Kevin

I was lucky enough to take a very similar trip to Canada including the Rocky Mountaineer in May this year (my daughter was at University near Toronto). You will have a great time - the train journey was a big highlight - you will love it!

Regarding luggage - our suitcases were transported directly to the hotel in Kamloops as they could not be taken on the train. We were advised to take a small bag/rucksack onto the train which would fit at our feet. You only really need the essentials - including a camera of course!

I would suggest you phone JY to check if this applies but I think it is fairly standard procedure for Rocky Mountaineer journeys.

Also we had a restriction regarding suitcase dimensions for our flight (Air Canada) - although we were still able to take a fairly large suitcase for our 3 week trip. Just thought I would mention this to avoid any excess baggage fees.

Happy to try and answer any questions.

Have a great time!

Hi everyone,

I went on this holiday in June,we had a mixture of weather, sun, rain and a bit of snow on Grouse mountain.I packed t shirts a fleece and a waterproof plus some sturdy shoes.I took a small rucksack which I used every day and a small handbag for evenings.

When we went on the Rocky mountaineer our main suitcase was taken by road to our overnight stop in Kamloops we only had hand luggage on the train but you couldnt take small hard suitcases on the train.

I think meal prices were ok,large portions!

It was an amazing holiday we saw bears, elk, bald eagles and osprey, you will love it!

Thanks for all the information Gill, Tina and Jane. My  hand luggage for the plane, which includes my camera, fits under my chair on the plane, so I guess this will be fine on the Rocky Mountaineer.

All getting very close now. Picked up my Canadian $ this week (wish I had got them before the Brexit vote, the rate was terrible).

Also booked car parking at Heathrow for the 6th.

Will start getting things ready to pack next week.  Think the next week will go very quickly.

Thanks for all your help everyone - cant decide how much money to take - loaded up by Post Office Card and taking cash but its difficult to work out how much will need as quite a few meals to buy? Are meal prices similar to city prices here?

Just back from fab Rocky Mountaineer trip (13th Sept) - all great! Weather was sunny throughout although chilly in the evenings - hotels varied but all had character! The Sheraton Wall Centre in Vancouver was a real treat and SO central! Will post review on forum but all I can say is ......GO and experience !
