Hi ymc

Good to hear from you. Glad you're doing the add-on. Like you, i am so looking forward to chill-out time. Still waiting for return of passport/visa. That's been nearly 2 weeks now. How long did you have to wait? Still haven't sorted out tablets yet. Don't know which malaria tablets are best. Must go to pharmacy and find out, as only 7 weeks to go!!! Like you, i have started to look at holdalls, but need to work out how much stuff i'm going to need for safari. The lighter the holdall the better, i think, but i always end up taking more stuff than i need. Apparently there's at least 30 people on this trip, so i think the others must be really shy.

See you soon

Hi Dee

Great to hear from you. Sounds like you are really organised. As usual i always leave things till the last minute. Found out today that i am going to be nightshift for the four weeks leading up to the holiday, so really must get myself together. Tried to work out what i was going to take today, but couldn't decide. Think it'll be mostly mix'n match!!

It'll be good to meet you & ymc in the lounge at Heathrow. Hope to keep in contact with you both via message board until then. Good luck with your injections next week.

Hi Cindy,

Thank you for your message. All tips gratefully received. Don't want to end up taking too much, or forgetting anything. Didn't realise it was a 4 hour drive when we land, so that is good to know. Have a fantastic holiday, and look forward to hearing from you when you get back.

Hi Dee

Good to hear from you. I know, time is certainly whizzing by. Holiday will be here before we know it. I'm more than ready for some "chill out" time. Still don't have my passport/visa back. That's nearly 5 weeks since i sent it. Maybe i won't be going anywhere!! I think i know what clothes i'm taking, but plenty time to change my mind. I'm flying down from Edinburgh, but don't have flight times yet. Where are you travelling from? I finish my nights on the Friday morning, so got a few days to pack etc. It'll be good to meet you in the lounge. Wonder if we'll be sat near each other on the plane? I'll let you know when i get my passport back. See you in 4 weeks & 2 days!!

Hi Cazza looking forward to meeting you at the airport. My son is taking me down, but i think i will be droped off very early, so if you arrive early maybe we could meet up before. Dee and i have met up for lunch a couple of months ago which was great. I also am having problems packing will be taking two cases I think, got my pasport back, just looking forward to getting tickets etc. It will be great I know it, still trying to learn how to use my new camera, hopefully I will have got the hang of it before hand. Hope to hear from you soon

Hi ymc,

It would be good to meet you at airport. As soon as i get my connecting flight times i'll let you know. I can only take 1 case, so have to be careful with packing. I understand about new cameras etc, as i've got a new camcorder. We'll have it sussed out before we go!! Do you know what currency to take? I've still to sort out malaria tablets. Need to start making a list of "things to do/get". See you in 4 weeks, but i'll keep in touch.

Hi cazza dont forget if you are only taking one bag to pack a bag in a bag, as you can only take a small one on the safari and the rest stays at the airport or somewhere. Kenyan Shillings is what is recommended to take.

Hi ymc,

Thanks for tips. Much appreciated. Malaria tablets ~ sorted. Soft holdall ~ sorted. Camcorder instructions ~ getting there. Currency ~ still to get. Only 3 weeks to go. Can't believe it. I've only 11 shifts left to work. Hopefully tickets etc will arrive soon & then we'll really know we're on our way!! Really looking forward to meeting you & Dee at airport. See you soon.

To you all

I came back from Safari + add on yesterday holiday of a lifetime...if flying from LHR you get allowence of 2 bags, each can way 23kgs so lots of clothes etc.. 1 a suitcase 1 a holdall.

I got bitten lots, so plenty of spray and anti histamine tabs etc... this was not on safari but at Travellers lodge... also take immodium type medacine as lots suffered with stomach upsets. There is a cildrens aids orphange near by so it you want to take pens/books/clothes new or used they would be most welcomed also money, you dont have to arrange a time, just ask the taxi drivers at the hotel they know the way..the KIDS loved the visit. On site there is massages etc.. I made full use of this and manicure, prices were so cheap. There is a supermarket close by so taxi driver takes you and waits for you ..if splitting the cost between 4 its value for money 1000ksh.... I took far to many clothes it was so HOT!!!..so never wore cardigan anorak walking shoes etc, just very little as so hot and sticky. You do not need to take pool side towels these are provided in both hotels. In second hotel, to make a change from buffett food, some of us paid for meal in Indian and Italian restraunte both good prices and good meals. Flights there and back went to time, night flying is hard as I couldnt sleep so very tired next day. You can get duty free on way back at Nairobi airport. I used Kenyan shillings all over, but USD are accepted in places. No hairdryer in Ashnil Aruba Lodge..and no kettles in the bedrooms in either hotel.. some of the extra trips are quite a bit of money, the people who went on dolphin trip had amazing day but it was long day in the heat. You will have a great time and the animals were just out of this world..

Have fun

Hi Cindy,

Great to hear from you & that you had a fantastic time. Sounds like the wait was more than worth it, apart from mossie bites. Thank you for all your tips. they really are appreciated, especially on the packing/amount of clothes to take. that will help me reduce the amount i take by 50%!! The one optional trip i really want to do is the dolphin trip, so if anyone who has done this trip would like to get in touch, i would love to hear from you. I am now counting the days, and your message has really upped the excitement level. I expect you can't wait to get your photos developed, or are there too many?!!

I'm now going to buy some anti-histamine tabs following your advice.

Where are you going on your next holiday? I'm thinking about Thailand next year.
