I'm considering booking on the National Parks holiday in May 2024, and am wondering how much Walking/Hiking is involved?

The Mesa Verde day trip,in particular,I see is quite a walk to the actual sight and having broken my wrist a few weeks ago, am quite nervous of it happening again!

Any advice welcome from previous travellers.

Hi Carol,

I did this trip in September 2022 and there is a review on the review page here if you have not seen it.

This is a brilliant tour.

As for walking you don't have anything to worry about. I did the entire trip wearing nothing more suited to walking than a pair of deck shoes!

At sites generally there are clear paths and walkways so there is no hiking as such and no need to go over uneven ground so you should have no trouble. At Mesa Verde we were actually parked quite close to the sights so there was not too much walking involved.

I did mention that one lady retired hurt - this was one of those freak accidents that could happen to anyone, anywhere and did not involve rough terrain.

Anything more specific then do feel free to ask

Ian

Hi Carol,

Thanks for your message, and thanks for bearing with us while we spoke to the operations team.

The Mesa Verde day is predominantly spent driving between points of interest, with commentary on board the bus. There are 5 stops where you walk a short distance on level ground to a viewing point etc but there is also 1 stop (Square Tower House) where you can go on a longer, approx 1000 ft walk (bit of uphill) to get photos but they are under no obligation to do so.

It's similar throughout the trip really, with short walks and some moderate hikes (with a bit of ascent and descent) but nothing super challenging. US National Parks are really well maintained and the areas being visited have heavy footfall and are prepared for just that, with clearly visible trails. Hope this helps somewhat? Let us know if we can be of further help and most importantly, have a great trip!

Best wishes,

Just You Team
