Hi Jan

I wouldn't worry too much about the smog situation as it's quite a while until you go. I'm sure the authorities will have dealt with the problem by then.

The currency to use is Russian roubles. Bear in mind you might struggle to change them back into pounds in the UK, so either change your money at the airport before you fly home or don't change too much and spend any last roubles at the airport before you come back.

I would recommend visiting the Moscow underground - it's one of the most beautiful in the world, with many chandeliers and ornate tiles.

Kind regards,

What is the best way re currency as i have been told Russian currency is difficult to get hold off so would it be better using ATM on arrival. i read a note on the message board saying they paid for tours with euros.

Hello

Roubles are a little tricky to get hold of but it's usually possible to order most currencies through your bank.

If not, I would take some sterling and convert it into roubles at Moscow airport. Withdrawing local currency using your debit / credit card is also a good option but check if this is possible with your bank before you go.

I went to Russia about 10 years ago and had a lot of trouble changing roubles back into pounds in Britain, so I'd recommend changing back or spending everything while you are still out there.

Roubles-no problem at all. I went on this trip last October and just popped into Thomas Cooks in Sheffield and obtained them-also changed some back on my return. I used Euros for the trips. The cost of living in Moscow is higher than London so take enough cash-lots of people ran out and had to use their credit cards.

I also went 10 years ago and its an entirely different country now, more European.

Enjoy your trip
