Hi all,

Thinking of Madeira in September. This will be my second JY holiday.

First one to Northern Cyprus not great to be honest but thought I would give the company a second chance.

Would like to hear from anyone who has been or who is thinking of going to Madeira.

I have not been nor am going on this tour, so sorry I cannot help you. Why did you not enjoy Northern Cyprus. Sorry to hear you did not have a good time.

Hi Annie, sorry you didn't have a great time in northern Cyprus, from what I hear about it it's still a bit underdeveloped and a fairly new holiday destination; perhaps that's why you didn't enjoy it so much? I haven't been to Madeira, but I hear it's beautiful. If you are looking for a Europe based holiday have you thought about the Treasures of Andalucia tour? It was my first JY hol two years ago and I thoroughly enjoyed it - beautiful scenery especially at Ronda, interesting places to visit and the day trip to Gibraltar was very interesting. I've since done America's Golden West, South Africa/Zambia and just back from India, they have all been truly excellent holidays in every way and I have seen parts of the world that I wouldn't have done otherwise. All JY hols are very well organised and great value for money, so choose a place that really appeals to you and go for it!

Best wishes,

Bob

I went in October 2008. The hotel was very remote and nowhere to go in the evenings other than a very small beach bar a short walk away so that was as good as the evening entertainment got. Nothing happening in the hotel as it was 'end of season' but in my opinion if they are taking your money they should be looking after you. We had to stop them taking the beach umbrellas away mid week!! The food was very repetitious and room very hot (air con not working). I did meet some lovely people though and we all made the most of it. It was my first time so now would check out the hotels position and check it out on web sites before booking.

Hi Annie

I too would like to know more about Madeira as i would like to go in September, i am just a bit worried as to whether it is very hilly as i am not good in coaches going round and round,i had terrible travel sickness in Portugal when on the Douro trip and the JY rep said that i would not be much good travelling in Madeira!!

I went to Cyprus to Salamis Bay for the second time last October and found that the hotel reception staff needed some customer care training. Because i had been before i did not go on the excursions but took the mini bus to Famagusta, i like Northern Cyprus for a relaxing break and would go again to the new resort that JY are using near to Kyrenia,

Kind regards

Jaya

Hello

I have been to Madeira a few years ago, but not with Just You. It is a pretty destination, but there are lots of hills and roads are 'windy'.

Regards

I see defo have a good look on the internet about the hotels an what is around and where it is, makes sence..I always have a good look on line etc...also have a look on the boards under testimonys and see what people say about the tours hotels etc, it does pay to do your homework.

Hi Annie, that's one of the main reasons why I prefer touring holidays, as you are only in the one hotel or place for one to three nights before moving on. The escorted tours pack so much in that you will be longing for an early night and certainly are never stuck for something to do! As Cindy says, do your homework beforehand and read the itinerary carefully - it is always very accurate and if you have any queries you can always ring JY or ask Olly and they will tell you all you need to know!

Hope it all works out for you,

Bob

Hi Annie,

I went to Madeira in September 3 years ago with Travelsphere (sister company to Just You) because there were 5 of us going to celebrate my birthday. I usually travel with Just You but 2 people wanted to share.

I love Funchal - the hotel in the Just You brochure is up a hill but then most of Madeira is hilly. However, you mention problems with coach travel while there. The excursions in the brochure are optional so you would not have to do them. I am sure the toboggan ride would not suit you although it is so much fun! There is a cable care in Funchal & that is something that might be suitable - the views are spectacular.

I was sorry to hear about your trip to Northern Cyprus. I was going to do this in March of last year but it was cancelled so I went to China instead - which was fantastic. I still would like to go to Northern Cyprus - I have been before some years ago & it is true it is less commercialised than than the South - but that is part of the appeal for me. I do notice that Just You are not using the same hotel now - perhaps for the reasons you spoke about. So hopefully your experience will not be repeated.

Annie there are some lovely places for you to visit. If you are still unsure check some of the others out. Obviously there are some trips which would definitely not be suitable but also there are so many that are. Take your time & I am sure you will find what you are looking for.

Have a lovely holiday (wherever you choose)

Be happy,

Best wishes,

Lesley

Having a change of heart now, more of a pull towards Tuscany. The hotel sounds nice and a beach within easy reach for some quiet time with my book after the excursions. Will be going 13th or 20th if my homework goes well.

As I agree with what Bob says Tuscany is a good little tour to go on, there is a sun trap at the top of the hotel with chairs table and loungers BLISS for reading ...and the beach is a stones throw away if that ENJOY
