You are very kind Michael in supplying that additional information, thank you. I hadn't realised that there would be so much free time. In addition, I have now 'caught up' that travel, within the city, isn't included in the tour - it takes time for these things to sink in!!

There again, I'm not too sure that this is made very clear in the information available. It makes sense now why JY has included (added to the price) travel in 2015.

Once again, thank you.

Regards

Katrina

Hi Katrina

Yes that’s right. Your hotel is situated within the old East Germany. I’d be lying if I said you couldn’t reach some of the attractions by foot – going from memory, the TV tower/restaurant is about 10-15 mins walk from your hotel whilst the Berlin Dome and DDR Museum are nearer 30 mins - but the city is served by a great combination of trams, trains, buses and an underground tube system which make getting around very quick and easy once you find your bearings.

A nice bonus is that there’s a tram stop no more than five minutes walk from your hotel and from what I remember there’s a bus stop not too far down the road either.

If you’re into sport, the Olympic Stadium was the furthest attraction away that I saw, which took about half an hour to get to using the public transport system.

I’m pleased to hear you enjoyed your first JY trip, as for being nervous initially well we’ve all been there – as is often said on here, the hardest part is taking the plunge and booking your first trip!

Hope you have a great time!

Michael.

Thank you Michael that is very helpful. I suspect, from what you say, that a lot of the attractions to be seen in Berlin are not within walking distance?

I have just returned from my very first JY holiday in Greece last week, which was a great experience and I thoroughly the holiday. I set off with great trepidation and wondered what on earth I was doing, however, it turned out to be good.

As one of those who did this trip in June, I’m pleased to hear the Travelcard will be included from 2015. I’ve done a number of JY trips and this remains the only one where I’ve had to pay to travel on trips I thought I were pre-booked and therefore already paid for in full!

Katrina, you may like to know a 72 hour Travelcard costs about €25. It runs from the exact time you purchase it, so if you delay buying one until mid-afternoon on day one it’ll see you through all of your remaining time in Berlin. Our group also received a little guide book each as part of the purchase, which if produced when gaining admission to the vast majority of tourist attractions entitled you to a discount of up to 50%.

You will get a reasonable amount of free time during your stay so if used wisely your Travelcard will prove good value for money!

Hope this helps - despite my grumbles, overall I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and hope you do too.

Michael.

Thank you Julia. Yes I appreciate they are provisional times, I just needed an idea in terms of time off work. If it was an early (provisional) time I would have risked trying to get back on that day. As it is, I need the following day off work to get back!

Hi Katrina,

The provisional arrival time to London Heathrow is 20:35.

As always, I have to stress that times are subject to change and would be confirmed in your final documents.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Please can you let me know what time the flight back into Heathrow is likely to be on this break?

Thanks

Katrina

Thank you Tim.

Hi Julia

I am thinking of booking the Berlin trip in December 2014 but before I do I wonder if you can tell me please what changes have been made to the trip, if any, given the feedback from three of the people who went along to the trip in June?

Thank you

Treen

Hi Treen,

Changes have indeed been made to this city break based on feedback received and the suggestions of one of the tour managers who ran this tour earlier this year.

To address some of the individual points that have been raised:

1. Entrance to the DDR museum is now included to fill some of the time between arriving in Berlin in the morning and checking in to the hotel in the afternoon.

2. The farewell dinner is being addressed, however it should be stressed that it is the unique location (i.e. the revolving restaurant at the top of the TV Tower) and the opportunity for the group to dine together that are really what the farewell dinner is all about.

3. Transport is included on the two included tours (sightseeing tour and Allied Museum). However, in order to maximise the free time in Berlin, travellers are encouraged to purchase a 72 hour Travelcard so the Tour Manager can take them all over Berlin to see other sights. For 2015 departures, the Travelcard is included in the cost of the holiday.

4. The River Spree boat trip is also being addressed to ensure that only English commentary is used.

Thanks,

Tim
