It might be worth taking a look around the forum, many of our members have shared their tips on travelling with cash.

It is possible to pay for several of the excursions before you leave the UK. I believe you can book the following (but your 15 week information pack will have the correct information);

Tabacon Hot Springs

Masaya Volcano and Managua

Penas Blancas River Float

Tarcoles River Mangrove Cruise

As for why excursions are quoted in UK£, there are two reasons for this. Firstly a number of excursions (but not all) are pre-bookable and this allows the customers to be aware of the cost if they are to book before leaving the UK. Secondly, the majority of our customers like to know what an excursion costs in pounds so they are able to budget and exchange for the local currency where our currency is not accepted in resort.

Thanks for confirming the situation. Must admit that it does concern me that I will have to take sufficient cash to pay for meals/drinks for the entire holiday as well as enough for any excursions I wish to do, especially when we are travelling between lodges every few days. Is it possible to pay for other excursions in advance of travel?

Also can you advise why the cost of excursions is quoted in UK£ when we need to pay in US$. Is it not possible to quote the cost in US$ from the outset?

If you are booking the excursions when you are in Costa Rica, you would need to pay the tour rep in cash, in US dollars.

I am aware that I can re-book some of the Costa Rica excursions prior to my holiday but would appreciate it if you can advise as to whether I can pay by Credit/Debit card when booking additional excursions while actually in Costa Rica itself or whether they have to be paid to the tour rep in cash.
