You must be looking forward to your trip now with only a couple of weeks to go!
In response to your question, the temperature will be around 15 degrees C. I would not expect it to be shorts weather but it is still worth taking at least one or two pairs just in case.
With regards to buying a camera, it doesn't really matter. If you are thinking of buying a disposable camera then I would recommend that you buy one in Britain before you go as you won't have to worry about finding one when you get to the States, and the small amount of money you will save if you buy one there will not make much difference.
If you were thinking of buying a digital camera that you are likely to use for years to come, I suppose my advice will still be the same. Buy one in Britain before you leave. You can get some good prices on digital cameras now and it will save you having to find a retailer in America who sells them at a price that will probably work out the same anyway. Also, when you buy it in Britain, you can always take it back to the shop if something goes wrong with it.
