my advice would be to take both US dollars and local currency (colon).

When I was there in 2018 I found the preference when it came to tips was for the colon. Apparently small dollar denominations can prove difficult for the locals to change.

Whenever you go, enjoy what is a most beautiful Country.

I've had a chat with our holiday advisors; US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas but their advice would be for you to speak to a Foreign Exchange bureau for more information.
