Solo travelling, with Just You, has opened up the world to me and has enabled me to travel to places I have always dreamed of. I have had some amazing experiences,created wonderful memories, met lovely people along the way and have made some very good friends as well. My advice is, stop thinking, choose a destination you always wanted to go to, take the plunge and book it. Then sit back, relax and let Just You do the rest. When you travel with Just You, you are travelling with like minded people of all ages, sharing experiences, making friends, having lots of fun and making wonderful memories without having to worry about a single thing. Life is too short so go on and take the plunge - you will not have any regrets.

Hi, I used to travel absolutely solo, book a flight, book a hotel and go,  but then in 2007 I discovered JY and a trip to see the polar bears in Canada and it sounded more fun than going alone.  So I joined up and had a fantastic time.  Now that I am some somewhat older i appreciate the security and togetherness that comes with JY travel. Have seen amazing places and met lots of lovely people.  Lost count of how many times I have heard the phrase ‘I wonder why I worried at all’

Take the plunge, look for the luggage labels on the hand luggage at the airport and ENJOY.

My first trip as a single was with 15 couples and 2 elderly singles in their 80's back in 2008. Saw a great amount of Southern States and my first Hurricane Ike. Had a few problems, ie going out drinking in New Orleans, still not had a Hurricane as I could not be sure that I would get back to the hotel in one piece 😞 I was left to my own devices as the others went out in pairs. The hotel in Atlanta was 20 miles out in Mariette, everyone else took taxis in at night to Atlanta. I watched a lot of Fox News catching up on Hurricane Gustav which had caused massive problems to Louisiana and flooding. With Hurricane Ike changing course, we hit New Orleans as it rolled in. Due to the Hurricane- our trip was cut short, an extra spare day in New Orleans and then a very early start- 2am to drive back to Atlanta instead of Houston. A wonderful trip ruined by Mother Nature.

By 2010, I had discovered Just You and what a difference. Petra to the Pyramids and loads of people like me, all wanting to see the same thing as me and many of us linking up to go out for the evening. I wanted the Hard Rock Cafe at the Hyatt Hotel sitting on the Nile. We had an afternoon off after The Egyptian Museum. 4 other ladies thought 'Why not' and came with me as they had not planned anything. Our hotel was in the Giza part so we walked miles- at least we had been fed well at the HRC so walked it off 🙂 3 months later and then the Arab Spring. Most of what I had seen at the Museum was either stolen or broken. The HRC was closed down and has just reopened in another part of the City near the main Mosque.

The difference between the 2 holidays are enormous- felt so alone with the first group, with JY, a whole new life of seeing the World. First holiday in Portugal in July, can't wait :heart:

What a great idea. My first trip was May 2017 Sicily I was not nervous but a little apprehensive. I needn't have been as from departure airport to return to UK is all taken care of by JY. Hence reason for booking 2nd JY holiday to Tuscany May this year with a great group of fellow travelers. My advice as I have said before on here is choose somewhere you have always wanted to go Book it Enjoy it. As the others have said you possibly will not gel with everyone but that will certainly be the minority in the group.

I will echo what Bob said I wish I had found JY earlier but don't they say life begins at 70 !!!! so here to many more.

I have been travelling abroad since 1978, mainly with friends but the odd solo and also a few times with Travelsphere, in 1989 I embarked with TS on their western wonders tour, alone, but they teamed you up with other single travellers at that time and also to Egypt, Thankfully those two tours teamed us up and we got on well, in 2013 after being put through a rough time by two women who befriended us in Kenya 2008, I survived 4 years of it then broke away from them, very long story, so I went somewhere I wanted to go, Australia, with JY, I wasn't nervous at all as just remember you are going on holiday not out on a date, since then I havn't looked back and met some fantastic people whom some of them I have become friends with having travelled to Peru, Vietnam, Borneo, Singapore, Costa Rica and Chile, I would not have gone to any of them had I remained in the company of these women

sob story I know but I would advise if there is somewhere you really want to go and you have the money then GO for it, the only regrets you shall have is NOT doing it, you are very well looked after from start to finish

I started travelling Sept 2006

We all travel as single people for a reason, mine is my husband would hate a constructed tour.

Open the brochure up, read up on what tour you fancy, what it is your interested in, if need be research it, but then BOOK IT, life really is to short to dither.

Go with an open mind, you won’t gel with everyone buy hey that's life. I have gone along to see stuff that had no interest to me like Kennedy Space Centre, to then find WOW that was interesting, so go and see everything you can you might be surprised as I have been along the way.

I have travelled the world and seen so many breath taking sights which will stay with me forever, yes it was by going out of my comfort zone, but boy I am so glad I did.

I would urge anyone to give it a go, you really do have nothing to lose, and if you don’t enjoy it then don’t do it again, but most of us come back off one tour eager to book the next..

So come on join in..great sights to see, lovely people to meet, and great adventures and fun to be had.

I travelled solo around Europe in my 20s but didn't do so again for many years.  I enjoyed the experience but it is definitely preferable to go in a group!  My first JY tour was in 2010 and I was a little apprehensive, rather than nervous.  Would I get on with the group?  Would I be left on my own a lot?  I needn't have worried as I had a great week and am going on my 18th JY tour next month!  All my great holiday experiences with JY have enabled me to travel the world, which I wouldn't have done by myself.  

My advice is simple and I'm sure will also be given by many others - don't dither, just pick a tour that appeals to you and book!  I am sure you won't regret it.  Occasionally there are minor niggles on a tour, but these are few and far between and the tour managers are brilliant at sorting any issues out.

My only regret is that I didn't discover JY earlier....

My advice would be to book somewhere (within your budget of course) that you’ve always wanted to visit, rather than deciding between a short/long break or short/long haul. If there’s a country that’s been calling you for years then book it.

Of course it’s a little bit daunting at first; I remember my first solo holiday eight years ago which involved me staying overnight at Manchester airport. I sat in the hotel bar the night before departure wondering what on earth I’d got myself in to! But the holiday (a cruise down the Nile which I’d always wanted to do) was amazing and I’ve never looked back.

Solo travel has introduced me to countries and places that I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would visit, and has given me a great circle of friends up and down the country who I still see and keep in touch with.

So for any first-timers out there, take the plunge because you really won’t regret it. I hope that this allays any fears people, who are new to solo travel, may have.

For anyone thinking of travelling solo for the first time with Just You, what advice would you give them based on your experiences? Were you nervous to travel at first and how has that changed since? What difference has solo travel made to you?
