Love mountains - used to ski - certainly have more padding now for hard landings but not so sure about the Bend ze Knees requirement! and as for getting up again????? A winter snow holiday in the mountains would be great as long as the hotel is well positioned and has plenty of facilities (e.g. spa, pool, restaurant, bar, social areas, easy access to town) and there are other opportunities to get out and about other than skiing - for example walking, shopping!, tobogganing, sleigh rides, husky rides, skating, cable car rides to cozy shacks to sip mulled wine and enjoy watching the skiers whilst admiring the views - nearly booked for Lake Louise in winter to do a snow shoe walk on the frozen lake! Like sallyc (Hi Sally - looking forward to hearing about your Namibia adventures and seeing the photos) I need another reason to break out the Canadian thermals!
Hi Bosuncat
We corresponded about Slovenia before - I agree Slovenia could be a distinct possibility for a snowy winter break. Liked Lake Bled Christmas 2013 - with no snow until we took the cable car up to Vogel - wonderful. Last Christmas they had plenty of snow! In fact I am going back to Lake Bled this summer - not with JY though - my chosen holiday has an included excursion to see the Lippizaners at Lipica - hurrah!
Alicia
Welcome! Firstly - can't believe you mentioned fondues! Takes me back to the late 70s/early 80s in Switzerland and the French/Italian Alps! Those were the days! ( I was very young  …..)
I know we all have slightly different requirements - just one of my thoughts is the length of long haul holidays - I know some people have to fit in with annual leave, but when travelling so far the longer the holiday the better for me! Perhaps this could be considered with either different itineraries on different dates and/or more and longer "add ons" to make the most of the long flights?
