Hi Susanna,

I've been to the Grand Canyon twice, on two different JY tours.  On the first trip, we went to the western rim (where the Skywalk is) and we did the helicopter/boat trip and although it was a good experience (my first in a helicopter), it was a little underwhelming.  The chopper flight was over in seconds as we literally just flew from the rim to the bottom of the canyon and, after the boat trip, back up again.  Again, the boat trip was fine but the views weren't what I thought they'd be.  Back at the top of the rim, the views were pretty impressive but once again, I felt that the Grand Canyon wasn't quite the mind-blowing experience I had been expecting!

Two years later, I did the National Parks tour and we went to the southern rim.  The contrast was incredible and completely blew me away!  The scenery was staggering, much more colour, and we could see much further.  I did a helicopter flight there and it was wonderful, so much better than the boat/chopper excursion at the western rim.  So, to be honest, if you do a helicopter flight or plane trip I am sure you will have the experience of the Grand Canyon that you were hoping for.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for that information Bob - it does seem that the western rim is not the best for scenery ☹️  However, this amazing tour is definitely a one-off for me (unless ERNIE comes up trumps)! So, I just have to make the most of it. Still deciding whether to venture on to the skywalk bit........

Hi 00Susanna00,

You will still be able to do the 'Grand Canyon' trip, however you will only be able to do one of the optional excursions.

Please see below for content that can be found in your Travel Documentation:

If travelling on tours USA, SAWW or UGW you will only be able to take either the Grand Canyon Helicopter Flight or the North Grand Canyon Discovery Air tour due to time restrictions.

I hope this makes things a little clearer.

Kindest Regards,

Amy

Thanks Amy,

I did ask about this when I spoke to customer services about another matter, and realised that I had misunderstood. I then made a second post.

However, I do think that the documentation is a little ambiguous - the 2 excursions mentioned above, I believe, must take place the day before the ‘free’ day in Las Vegas. Then the ‘Grand Voyager’ requires the whole free day.

I was hugely relieved to find out I could still do this! ???

I have just received documentation for my upcoming trip, and it appears that it is now not possible to do the ‘Grand Canyon’ full trip!! Plane/helicopter/boat etc.

Please can you confirm the reason for this? It just says ‘time restrictions’, but this was going to be the highlight of the holiday for me, and I know that it went ahead on last years’ tours.

Thank you
