Hi Debbie

When I did the South Africa trip we had to pay for extra excursions with cash though things may have changed and you may be able to use a credit card. I think the issue was the WiFi was unreliable to process transactions.

Hi Debbieandnorris,

British citizens do not require a visa to South Africa. If you are not a British citizen, you will need to check visa requirements with the South African Embassy.

Kind Regards,

Amy

Thanks guys I just ordered a Monzo Card... Plus I'll be getting some currency to from xe. The excursions would that be easier to pay cash or card?

May I suggest you consider getting a Currency Card as they are very convenient for holidays like this and if you shop around a bit you can get a good deal.

I have a Caxton FX one and it is excellent. I used it in South Africa and Zambia 4 years ago (and other countries since) with no problems, no loading charges and a good exchange rate. There are several other similar cards which people on this forum have recommended too.

Enjoy South Africa, it's great.

Good Morning Debbieandnorris,

To purchase South African Rand I would suggest that you first look at what the current exchange rate is on XE.com. From this, I would then shop around for the best deals (e.g. in stores, at the airport, post office).

I know that when Julia went abroad to South Africa she actually exchanged her currency overseas, so perhaps this is something you could also do?

I hope this helps.

Kindest Regards,

Amy

Hiya 5 weeks till I go wondering where's best to buy currency from...

Any other suggestions on what you take?
