Hi All

I'm off to Switzerland next Friday for Christmas. I received my final paperwork in early December but there is no mention of who the TM is. I also received an email last night wishing me a lovely holiday. Surely it would make sense to include the Tour Manager in that final email?

Regards

Sylvia

I have been following this thread with interest and, so far, not been inclined to comment.  However I have to agree with Sally and Cindy to a degree.  I do find that there is a normally a JY rep at the regional departure airport in the UK but I do find that the arrangements for meeting at the other end are haphazard where the TM does not travel with us and they rarely do from regional airports.  I also agree that all too frequently the regional flight is left to fend for itself and as in Italy left 8 hours before the London flight.  Naples airport was a nightmare and had I been a newbie it might have put me off future trips altogether.
I agree Sally.  I don't know about others, but I am finding that less and less people are putting their JY labels on their hand luggage, and certainly on the last trip I did to Dubrovnik, I found no one pre flight, there was no rep at East Midlands Airport, and no rep at Dubrovnik.  It took me close to 20 minutes to find the TM in arrivals.

For any newbies, and anyone not familiar with airport procedure that would have been not a great first impression.  JY claim that they have reps at every departure, including the regional departures.  I have yet to see one at any of the regional departures that I have done.  Why put it in the paperwork if it doesn't happen?  They should be there, and clearly visible to help if needed.

JY should also ensure that there is some kind of representation at departures on the return journey.  I can give a couple of examples, where those of us on regional departures have been dumped on a bus to come back to the airport, with just the driver, and had to deal with everything ourselves at the airport.  Faro, and Naples, (where we were taken to and from the hotel in Cilento via a not great mini bus, with a driver, who spoke hardly any English was the worse example).  I believe that doesn't happen any more, and shouldn't have happened in the first place.   I sometimes think that regional departure people, pay, what can be a large supplement, and get a second class service.

As far as the TM is concerned.  I always ask on here, but yes, I agree, the name (albeit provisional) should be on the final paperwork.

This is just to clarify that we do give you the name of the tour managers when you request it.

Sorry Mildred, I don't agree.  Shouldn't have to ask, it should be on final paperwork together with where to find them.  As is posted further down by sallyc and SarahS - regulars know the drill, nervous new travellers don't, and not everyone uses the forum.

I think that with regards to the Tour Manager the issue is with newbies. They likely won't come to the forum (presuming they hear about it somehow) so imagine how it would feel if you were an inexperienced or nervous traveller going on your first time with a company you are new to, going on a holiday with a bunch of strangers and not knowing who is in charge or who to ask for if you encounter problems. The regulars know that it all works out in the end but that is only with the luxury of experience. It seems to me such an easy thing to add on to the paperwork 'your Tour Manager is provisionally X and will be travelling with you / meeting you at the airport'.
Although useful, I can manage without the tour manager's name. It's  more important to have the correct information about whether they are travelling with the group from the UK, or meeting it at the destination. If its the destination,  clear instructions as to meeting point are needed. Also airport reps need to be aware of where the group will meet the tour manager. On my last holiday I was told the manager would meet the group in the arrivals hall. In fact she had travelled out  with us, and told those she met to meet in the baggage hall. I didn't  see her at the gate so it'd in arrivals. It was very difficult to persuade an official to let me into the baggage hall to meet the group.

Not being given the tour managers name isn't a big deal I don't think, I have had names in the past but it isn't that person when I actually go. So now I don't ask I just wait to see who is there when I go. I am not sure what Travel details you are missing with the final documents. For me an airline is a means to an end, as long as the flight gets me there I don't mind what airline it is. As for hotels I have travelled the world with JY and have stayed in many standards, anything better than a clean room and bathroom is a bonus...I am not in them long enough, for me the holiday is what I am seeing/doing/ and meeting new people.

Cindy

All this messing about, changing airlines, hotels, fobbed off and we are covering our backs responses, I am not surprised JY didn't win their BTA section this year.  Get your act together All Leisure and think about your customers as well as your profits.

Not being given TM's name, and travel details with final documentation is another gripe.

Rant over

Good Afternoon Sammiett,

I am sorry that you have had such a bad experience.

Could you please write to us so we can investigate this properly?

Kind Regards,

Mildred
